grin it up baby :)
well, im back at home. some power outtages have already started and the storm isnt even in full swing yet.
at least i have ups all my stuf is hooked up to. i will be able to transmit a distress call before i am electricityless. stove is gas, so that will be a saving factor.
fingers crossed, electricity stay on...
btw, we were discussing generators etc, yeah everybody has been sold out of everything...propane, propane accessories, generators... for a couple of days.
bob & cal, you should be in the same boat.

You know it papasan!
The closed the schools at about 1 pm. It could get ugly over the next two days.
Can you imagine 2" of ice!! ftw!!
That last big ice storm was only 1/2" and paralyzed this place for nearly a week.
Temps are supposed to be below freezing clear out past next Friday...

haha when i lived in Cary, NC (basically Raleigh) at the slightest hint of snow, ice, sleet... school closed or let out early. Hell, in 2000 when Raleigh had that 18" outta no wheres, jeaz we were out of school for at least a week if not 7 days...
i loved it, cause when i went to school in pittsburgh, the only time we had a day off was during the blizzard of '95 and even then we only had 2 days off. hell i remember regularly watching tv in then morning with 6"+ on the ground hoping for some delay or a day off... no dice...
and thats why i loved hearing "winter" weather in NC! haha

wow this is awsome it is 40 degrees and raining here in chicago, it reminds me of the fatherland, where it used to be 40 degrees and raining on midsummers day....
if it does snow and ice and everything here it can do it AFTER i get my new video card, so at least i will have something to do
i think i will put and UPS on the DSL and router and use my laptop too :D
Rain is starting to turn to ice in my area now. Looks like it is going to be a shitty weekend, guess I will have to stay home and play games.

I had blowing wind and snow yesterday morning. Around noon it quit snowing but the wind kept at it. It stayed around 0 all day and when I got home from work about 8:30 yesterday it was 50 degrees in my trailer and I think it got down into the 40s last night in my house. My poor little furnace can't keep up with the cold. Right now it is 62 in my house and falling. I might just go turn the oven on and prop the door open a little to help warm my house.

wow, ichix, thats what i expected here. you got freezing rain and everything is falling down.
weve been getting straight sleet, so the trees arent coated like that yet, just deposits of ice like snow. they are calling for situation like yours today and tomorrow, but knock on wood, its just white, i dont have the ice totally enveloping everything like that. good luck bud.
ive got a gargantuan pecan tree whose limbs (the size of smaller trees) are hanging over my deck. so if just one of those breaks and falls, the deck will be totally lost.
alright, good luck to everyone today. is supposed to last thru tomorrow.
Ouch guy, hope your fairing well.
Growing up in Ill, there were a lot of ice storms, you get use to it....but never seen 2" of ice. The only two things about the winter I don't like is ice and wind chill , I love the rest.

Still no icing (yet) here either papasan. Go SLEET!! We've gotten about 3". Waiting to see what will happen today and tomorrow.:D
I know what you mean about the pecans. I have two huge, hundred footers that shed limbs at will. The last one was 12" diameter, twenty some foot and lit smack between the trampoline, my grill (home built and indestructively tree proof), and my kitchen roof. There was no wind, no ice, no anything. It wasn't even dead! It just decided to fall out. They can be a hazard.
Good smoking wood though. I stocked up.
mmmmm......bbq
Now I'm hungry. Better thaw some ribs.
Good luck IChix! Looks like you're getting the raw end of the deal so far.

anyway, i dont think we will get the freezing rain here to bring down power lines, but ithought i heard several hundred thousand are out of power in oklahoma.
anway, has been a freaky weather cycle. there goes more thunder.

its not supposed to get above 31 for the next week, and i thought i saw more snow/rain/ice on friday.
Managed to move all the vehicles to safety other than the RV (no where else to put it). Didn't get anymore freezing rain yesterday, but they are still calling for it today with up to 1/4 inch.

I'm surprised to say that Utah doesent seem so bad anymore... Its cold, yes, and there is wind, but our snow has been off and on.. kinda seems to wait until all the snow is gone so it can put some more on the ground...
a note: winto green lifesavers tootsie rolls and dr. pepper make you shake like you are freezing to death ... by the way wintogreen lifesavers and dr. pepper do not act like mentos and coca cola (at least thats what i think it was...)

ours isnt melting yet, but some is evaporating i think. going into work was postponed until 2pm. i am waiting for the call to tell me to just stay home. i guess a 3 hour workday isnt bad in any case.
if this had started on a monday, i could have an entire week off of work. so far both of our major winter storms have hit on weekends. weather needs to aim better.

Texas A&M University closed on Tuesday the first day of classes because of a wintry ice storm and they are having a half day on Wednesday because it continues. We even had snow :D for a little bit and then it went back to sleet and freezing rain. Oh well.. first time this has happened in 11 years.

tomorrow will warm up to 38,
then we have another snow storm blowing thru starting friday and below freezing thru next week. so this thread wont die quite yet for me.

Malibu has snow yesterday. It was on a mountain top. They closed the road that was going thru there. It was enough snow to stick and didn't melt for a long time. Even though the pass was closed, people still drove up there to play in the snow and take pictures. It was quite a sight in the evening news.

We're supposed to get 4-6" this weekend.
BUt the highs are supposed to be in the high 30's so maybe something will finally melt and let the kids back in school. Missing weeks get tacked on at the end, so everyone is stressed about a short summer vacation.
I'm guessing they will run the buses again about Wednesday.
