View Full Version : JALALABAD love it, leave it, replace it ???

I think Jalalabad is a heavily unbalanced map in IO modeand I know some of you agree with me. IF (and sometimes thats a BIG if) the U.S. forces are able to break through it can be a good experience, but most of the time it seems like a lesson in futility. IMHO.
So do you think it's the weak link in the map rotation?
Do you like the Jalabad map?
Do you want to see Jalalabad replaced with another map?
Thought I'd make a poll to find out.
If you like the map... DON'T FORGET THE LAST OPTION.. keep the map, but add another map into rotation

Keep it. If for no other reason than to make players who would normally chickenup with the sniper kit, pick another kit that you can use to help a squad on the run.
Medic or support preferably, to keep me alive and supplied.
D@mmit! Didn't see the last option.

i played it a handfull of times on the IO server and didnt find it that enjoyable, but i played it on PR the other night, and got 19 kills before my first death. In PR, they have the flags set up in a much more reasonable fashion. they're in the same locations, but the US starts off with the lake and the outpost and the foutain and the garage(?) (the next flag after fountain) are nuetral so the first fight breaks out between that flag and the foutain. the way it is in vbf2 can be pretty frustrating.

it's not futile if all members of a team rush one target at the beginning of a round

This is such an easy map to play... if you have just one decent squad then they will break through in the first 5 minutes and have a go at the whole city.
It's also fair justice after MEC has to contend with Sharqi.

That's how it should be in I/O mode. Mosque and USMC base uncappable, start with USMC owning Outpost, MEC owning Junkyard. USMC pushes Fountain or Lake. MEC can grab back flags or do the same as USMC. Either way, they have to defend Junkyard and get either Lake or Fountain to start a ticket drop.

this map is AWSOME, multi is rite, all u need is one organized squad and u can break through into the city. This map and karkand imho has the best firefights for IO. its so fun :) cant wait till i get bak and play it.

I will admit that if the US can't break through early in the game, then they get slaughtered, but it still is a good map and should be left in the rotation.

Some of the best battles I've played have been on that map on the IO server. It does suck if the US can't break through, but if they do the map totally rocks!

This is one of the best maps made for this game. I played last night and the only problem you have as the us is that there were more snipers then any other kit. While you can do ok on that map with say 10 snipers out of 32 players you really cant have as many as i saw last night. If people work as a group and push the map as U.S. you have no problems winning this map. People get made when they get stuck at the outpost. Less snipers at the start of this map makes a big difference.

In my opinion, playing the MEC side is completely boring, unless you are a sniper, which is boring in itself. The only good thing about Jabahammaballadbad is when you are on the USMC and you have to get a squad of medics together and run for it. But for as many times as when I was on the MEC side and there were no real threats on the USMC, slaughter ensued and inevitably, a bunch of players on the USMC side would leave the server. I never really come out of any of those rounds thinking about how fun it was...no matter what the outcome was. That was the only map where I felt switching sides after the first round was a good idea.

I like the map, I do believe it only takes one good squad for the US to break through. If anyone has played with GMG as there squad leader he always finds away to break through, even if we get cut off on the first run. I am part of his goon squad as everyone calls it. You can go right up the middle if you have a full squad, 4 of the members keep the others busy or cover the SL 6, while the SL and a medic run though to Junkyard, market, or Mosque. As the 4 that kept eveyone busy once you die they spawn on the SL one of the 3 CP will go down. Once it goes down hopefully your team will spawn there if they don't then the team deserves to lose and get raped at the main base. I have always broken through if we have a full squad of medics and a good SL.

The map isn't the problem. Teamwork is. From what I have noticed, squads will only advance so far and then hunker down and play snipe-counter snipe instead of pushing in and taking down flags. It's the commanders job to coordinate with his squad leaders and make this happen. While playing tonight, the U.S. team steamrolled right through the lake and outpost very early in the game. Of course, player ability is a factor as well. For the most part, I like this map.

Defiantly keep. Not so much the fact that the US gets stuck in their main base but the intense squad fighting thats aboslutly needed to get passed. A squad working together can get past the MEC take a base and then theres a little chance that people will noitice and spawn there too. But all in all theres a large firefight and you get to know the land very well and your able to use every little crevice to your advantage. Theres a big difference between being able to turn the corner and be safe then to have to run from cover to cover being light up the whole time.

nope, that choice was there ... I hope that more people notice it as one of the main reasons for this poll is to conjure up more support for some new maps.... need some variety.... if you have not voted in the "which new map would you like" poll make sure you do
I like Jalababadoodada ok, when it's balanced, it's just that there are some other maps I like more... like S.Stalemate

I like the map, it's fun and I think it's about teamwork and pushing forward. It worked for the american team tonight, they all came to the lake and went than forward. Sometimes it sucks if too many guys use only the sniper kid, but I would reather for the keep the map and add the songhua map too.

@The PR folks: What does the set up of the PR map have to do with the way the IO server is set up? EA isn't going to change it because PR has a "better" way of doing it.
----
Back on topic, I find when I play this map I just make a squad if I'm not already in one and tell all of my squad members to spawn medic or get I'll kick them out. Once we revive whore our way into the city and take the first flag then we branch out into our normal kits.
Again, very easy map to attack as USMC.

The map is alright, it usually just takes somebody to load incredibly fast, or a decent squad to run over the hills, throwing med kits like crazy.
I don't enjoy the 'nade fest that it has become though. It's like, as soon as you spawn in, run up towards the hill, there's a decent amount of 'nades flying at your face. However, once the flags start getting capped, it becomes a more enjoyable map.
All in all, the map should stay in rotation, but something like Gulf of Oman should be added in as well.

check it out Warlord... looks like only 11 votes to get rid of it/replace it.. majority want to keep it or keep it AND add another map.. and I know some people would have voted to keep and add (as opposed to just keep) but didn't notice the "and add" option

im saying it isnt a bad map, in fact it can be a fun map, but the way it is set up isnt very fun. yall keep saying "you just need one good squad," but fail to mention the fact that the other team may just as easily have that "one good squad," which can easily counter the other squad's moves due to their inherent advantage afforded to them by the way the flags are set up.

One good squad can't defend against another good squad...
If you're USMC and your squad gets rolled trying to take the fountain... immediately spawn and push the other side hard... you'll take it. I rarely see two good squads on one side at the same time and if there is the teams need to be evened out badly. The defense simply isn't mobile enough in IO to run back and forth the whole round and they'll need to guess to anticipate your moves. If you put overwhelming pressure (read: 6 medics) on the side that they aren't on you're going to get into the city.

I would have voted to add more maps too. Didn't see, at work so have to be fast. lol 2 of my 3 golds have come from Jalalalalal, one from each side, not much but good for 15fps. I was commander the other day and got within 8 tickets of winning the round. Getting a squad around is key, I try at first if I am on US but if that does not work I become a sniper and try not to die.

I think that is a very good map if most people joins a skuad. If, in stead of this, people starts becoming sniper :sniper: , the map is a completly mess. :wallbash:

it is the land version of wake island, but really is it so hard to push through, with enough common sense it isn't impossible to get through. its the people who want points and points only that make the level tough to break through, people who open fire whenever they see the enemy.
with enough patience and strategy a 6 man squad can break through easily.
i wan't a china map too...i mean MEC vs US is nice but china can be so much fun.

Teamwork is a must on this map.if 2 sqauds can link up and via commo with commander no doubt they can make a break to flags.
No team work=Hell to pay

snipers and a lack of ppl squading up on the USMC side will just end that round real quick....
But the key is to have good squad leaders and ppl who listen. 2 squads of medics going for lake can def. take the flag
