1. what do I NEED?
2. What is a waste?
3. What should I stay away from (ie, the intercooler)?
4. Games?
a. Racing?
b. FPS (yes, I know....R6 :D )
c. Sports?
d. Additional?

I think the premium comes with every thing you need.
Games:
A. sim: Project Gotham (Forza 2 is coming out soon) or arcade: Burnout or NFS Most Wanted (I didnt like NFS Carbon that much)

B. Yes R6 and Gears of War (and Lost Planet looks good. Its coming out next week. This is a third person shooter though and so is gears) Oblivion if you dont have it for the PC yet... i know its not a shooter but it is first person

C. I would avoid Madden.. not cause of the game play but i just cant stand his voice anymore....:flipoff:

D. I like the wireless head set but WihAdmin has had some issues with it. And maybe the extra battery with the charger but i just use the wire charger that lets me play while its charging my battery.

I also Plan on getting Crackdown too when it comes out. It is being made by the guy who started the GTA games. It looks like GTA a bit with super powers. There is also a chance to get into the Halo 3 beta when you get this game.

From talking to you previously, since you're getting a Premium and will connect it to your network by wire, then you don't need the wireless adapter that Gorro's asking about.

Things you need

Live Gold Subscription to play games online.
second controller if you want to have another person play at the same time.
put your 360 on the DMZ

Things that are nice to have

Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802126)
Microsoft Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802270)

Things that I recommend avoiding
MS wireless headset (this thing blows. $60 and it gets out of sync, disconnected, noises, static, echoes. MS won't replace it. it's been too long for me to refund)

Games (IMO)

Project Gotham. Personally I didn't like this game at all. The previous release, PGR2, on the Xbox was a much better game.
Test Drive Unlimited. Fun game when we're all online and cruising around Hawaii's streets and canyon roads. Single player is ok. Nice selection of cars and ok selection of motorcycles.
R6:Vegas is the current hotness. Most of us are playing it.
Gears of War. Short fun if you like scifi shooters. If you prefer real world weapons, then R6:V is for you.
Chromehounds is dead. Ok single player, but the game was built for online clan action. However, we're no longer playing this game.
Fight Night 3 is good if you like boxing. It'll really show off your 360 graphical prowess if connected to HD set.
Dead Rising. Fun hack and slash game for single player.

Okay, so the 360 Premium is on the way,
1. what do I NEED? The Premium has pretty much what you need but like WihAdmin stated the rechargable battery pack with the quick recharge kit with one extra battery pack is a good thing for long sessions you can swap out the pack when it runs down.

2. What is a waste? Don't bother with the driving wheels for 360. I have found it much easier to drive with the standard controller than with the wheel I bought.

3. What should I stay away from (ie, the intercooler)? I bought the intercooler and it seems to be fine but I don't know if it has done anything for my console.

4. Games?
a. Racing? Test Drive Unlimited and Burnout 3 Revenge are good. I also did not like PGR3 even though I did like PGR2.

b. FPS (yes, I know....R6 :D ) R6:Vegas is one of the better FPS games I have seen on 360. Call of Duty 3 has great sound and visuals and has plenty of enemy to shoot. Gears of War is good too.

c. Sports? I like Madden, NHL2K7, and Fight Night Round 3

d. Additional? Dead Rising and Just Cause are pretty addictive single player games.

I bought the intercooler, is only 24.99 so I figured why not, keep things cool is key IMO, and it is quiet, so no worries.

and go to Circuit City: 2nd controller 39.99 and 13 months of Live Gold 39.99 cant go wrong! and pick me up a wireless adaptor for Christmas:D

That's a great deal for Live Gold. it's typically like $50 or $60 a year. Now you have everything except the game we all are playing.

I will go later to both bestbuy and circuit city. had to come right home, couldn't stop even though they were on the way home. Also, I read some bad things about the intercooler.

Does your new HDTV have a VGA port, and how well does it work?

If it works well, def. get the VGA adapter to replace the default cable and enjoy your 360 in all its 1080p glory:-)

Drayu

yes, my tv does have a vga input, but I thought the Xbox put out in 1080i only. am I wrong?

you should be able to do in at 1080P through component for GAMES, but movies and stuff shouldn't up-convert to it.

component looks really nice but there is an imposed limit on what it can display, VGA has no limit, but the colors are a little "washed" out sometimes.

it's a mixed bag really.
