There's been talk recently by our players about the possibility of swapping sides at end of rounds. In the past, whenever we had this option turned on, it tend to crash our server much more than if it's off. So we've left it off all this time. But we've turned it back on hoping that the crashes have been resolved with the current BF2 patch level. Please report any server crashes in the BF2 forum.

heh is this pr inspired? one weekend of no crashing on the pr sever is such a miracle, given its recent history, that it's given you hope for the IO server.

Yes. Partially inspired by the PR server since both are at the same base BF2 server version.

Before the side swapping option was turn on, the squad didn't reset each time we had a new round. Now with the side swapping on we have to make a new squad each round. Anyway this can be solve?

I'm pretty sure that just comes with the territory... it's the huge negative to side swapping being enabled...

Nope. EA did not give the facility to keep squads to external admin tools. So squads are always reset every time a swap occurs. It's just something that people will have to live with.

maybe it that goes well, we can then consider randomizer????????

i dont play IO, but i would hate that playing on pr. at least when it's just side switching, you can easily form your squad back.

when you have a squad of your buddies rockin out with their cocks out and then you as SL have to stop every few seconds in the crucial beginning moments of a round to kick dbags out of your squad to get them back in... this being when servers arent set to have a 45 sec wait period in between rounds... oh and it really blows when you have a fast machine so you load into a round fast and then some of your squad members are slow to load so you have to lock and invite all the time... I hate that they cant team swap and keep the squads!

im glad that 2142 loads fast after you join the server for the first time... for some reason everyone loads in quick each map change...

the way i see it, you have that first inconvenience the first min of the game

but in exchange, you play a different side in the game, with different strategies and with different weapons. and with almost same squadmates, with 1 or 2 new ppl that you can fight with and learn from. makes each round more interesting than each map.......

but of course the same players are still on the same team. to truly solve stacking, randomizer is the answer. however it has been made very clearly that most FORUM users do not want that. it's a choice we have to make, to end stacking or to tolerate it and try to minimize it with the honor system...

i know i know, i keep bring up the issue of stacking....... :P
some FORUM regulars have been making effort to "fix" it, and i thank them for it

.......anyway, can't wait to try the team swap :)
not tonite though, gotta take friend to airport at 5am

After a year and a half... I don't need to worry about playing different strategies or using different weapons.

I really dont like it, and its one main reason i play on wih because most other server swap sides:thumbsdown:
When your squad is running to a flag.... you have to take time to find your squad, join a squad again Or kick someone to regroup your squad.....all this time you lose a flag or get killed.........

I know there is always a way around it but i SAY MORE KILLIN and less screwn around trying to find your squad again:thumbsdown:

its your server just wanted to let you know my thoughts.....

By the way thx for the {GoD} squad ts channel......

IO people seem to be against it, but i love it on PR. i hate getting stuck on one side for the whole night.

Side swapping makes sense bc we run 2 rounds per map. Players should have to play both sides.

When it's off, people complain about team stacking and winning streaks. When swapping is on, people complain about squads not being there.

There's no right answer, so we're going to stay the course, to use a coined phrase, and leave team swapping on for a while.

As long as the server doesn't crash... it's all the same.

Your the boss and i stand behind your decision............:wallbash:

why is there a question of switching????? before the change to swapping YOU could always change sides at the end of the game if the other team is getting owned...i dont get it........

Many times ithe god squad swithed sides to help the other team!!!!!

I dont know why someone suggested the change??? even if you swap sides........if your on a good team you will always win regardless of the swap......LIKE yesterday....swapping had NO effect....

Some maps favor one side in the begining. I think it is good move, and hopefully doesn't cause server crashes.

for ppl who constantly use unlocks, yes the weapons makes no difference

but alot of the defaults (like ak-101, rpk, svd particularly) do make engagement different

as for strategies, on map Mashtuur City for example, the usmc is favored due to the direct path to the mid flag and shorter path to the tank spawn. the level of difficulty to take a flag are different as well (try ranking them considering the adjacent flags). and typically it's easier to take grounds that are lower in elevation. this map, everything east of the water is higher.

also, playing the same side on jalalabad (favors mec initially) for both rounds is not as fun as trying both sides on it

To me this is taking away from team play. I have been commander 3times and less people are taking the time to squad up.

I like the team swap, just my 2 pesos. But it is a pain in the a$$ to squad up with your buddies, random people tend to join your squad which is not a bad thing except when you have a full squad of your buddies. The bad part about that is someone will be getting kicked to make room, feelings will be hurt and then they try to hunt you down to TK you.

Seriously guys...

Here's a time breakdown at beginning of a round for a squad leader

T+0: round start
T+1: hit TAB
T+2: click Create
T+3: click lock icon
T+4: click Manage Squad
T+5: start clicking your teammates
...
T+10: done

10 secs to create a squad.

As a squad member
T+0: round start
...
T+10: receive squad invite
T+11: press PageUp to accept

11 secs to get into a squad.

So 11 seconds at the beginning is all it will take....

Compare that to every time you die, you spend anywhere from 10 - 20 secs before respawning in.

The fact of the matter is that people like to stay on the winning team round after round so they can kick ass and take names. They like going on 10+ winning streaks bc it pumps up their stats.

Hmm never tried that way thanks for the heads up. I am not complaining I like the team swap. I just need to learn to move and do that at the sametime. In the beginning of a map I am usually one of the first ones to load up so when I'm on the US side in Jala and Karkland that little edge is very helpful to make it to the fountain or train or Mec on the Shari to the city entrance or hotal. I will lock it up next time that should fix the problem of kicking someone.

no offense but youre forgetting the major factor... players load time. When i used to play i would load in and be ready to go with 30 seconds to grab a fresh beer. but the people with slower machines wouldnt load in until i almost reached the first flag where im focused on staying alive and sneaking past the enemy. so sending them an invite would be worthless even at the last 5 seconds cause they wouldnt get in intime to accept it... thus i have to re invite again...

yeah i like winning round after round while kicking ass and taking names! and ill be the first to admit it too.

None of my opinion matters for the fact that i dont play bf2 anymore... just stating some things that were true when i did play

We can't make decisions for our servers based on players' load times.

In general almost every change we make there are those that like it and those that'll hate it. Unless the change is causing some technical problems that affects the server operation, the change will stay for a while.

lamah

so far i like it too.

played about 6 rounds. no blow outs yet. some close ones. so that's good.

as for squads, able to stay on the same ones. squad leader did get lazy on the 3rd round and didn't bother to invite, but by then, ppl who liked his leadership rejoined on their own, myself included.

i dun understand why someone would tk you just because you kick him off the squad. i say take pics and threaten to submit to admin. they usually stop when you threaten them.

I even said sorry buddy I need to kick you to make room for a buddy. So what does he do run up behind me and put a knife to the back. I will try but I don't think it will happen again.
He must of had a bad night.

Don't threaten them. Just snap pic and post in the Watch List thread for the game. We'll deal with them.

I have been playing on a smaller 48 man server and it seems to work fine.. I havent crashed yet with it.. I just wish they would add the feature to keep the squads together so you dont need to worry about squad setup at map change or game restart..

I think it causes the no-squad bug more than it causes crashes.
