Anyone got this bug/virus/trojan/pain in the arse?

I don't know what it is, or how to stop it. It is a blank pop-up that hits me (just this last week) during the time I'm online, and when I am not online. I can unhook my modem, and turn off my monitor, and come back 6 hours later to find 2 or 3 windows open that save SEEVE.

My add scrubbers seem to do nothing.

When I'm playing I get booted when this thin pops up.

That really sux. It would sux worse during a tourney match.

Any thoughts appreciated.

jeesh... you guys really need to scrub your systems and limit script access via IE. best thing you can do is make sure you're at the current rev level for XP (SP2), are running an anti-virus app, and a software based firewall (at the very least).

the two best apps i've come across thus far are AdAware and SpyBot...

http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adawareplus/
and
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

also make sure you limit cookie access on your system... generally i always have it prompt for 1st party cookies and automatically deny 3rd party cookies.

that's all i can recommend without looking at the systems.

Those are the best free apps, If you are willing to spend a few bucks go pick up Spy Sweeper, It works much better than those 2.

Spy sweeper is the norton of spyware removal......can anyone say resource hog...I'm glad some of you have the knowledge of protecting your PC, I recommend those programs to my clients..minus spy sweeper, though it cleans out the registry really well.

P.S.- I recommend Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus

Yah it does suck down the system resources, but thats why I only run it when I want to sweep.

I got adaware Pro. I just scaned my hard drive and found 25 spyware files. Then scaned with norton. I found about5 viruses. Then again with Adaware. Then norton again. You keep finding things everytime. Do that until you stop finding things. My comp runs like new.

You need Explorer because most of the time mozzilla dosnt work on WIH. I only use explorer to get on WIH but I do agree it has some major security flaws. Use mozzilla when you can

As far as an antivirus program goes, I would reccomend AVG Antivirus. It's better than Norton IMO and free!

I have had some expierence with trojans, viruses, and the likes. I have adaware and spybot which are pretty good at getting the job done. But the best one I've come across so far is from Microsoft. (it's free)

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Your best best would be to turn off system restore, restart the computer in safe mode and run all four programs (adaware, spybot, some kind of antivirus, and the Microsoft anti-spyware) then turn back on system restore, and restart. Run all the scans again. If anything comes up, we may have to get down and dirty and use Hijack this.

Or if you can recall when they started popping up, you could try to do system restore to before they started happening. It might work, but if it's a trojan then it'll still be there when you do system restore.

Let me know what happens. Good luck.

*Edit* FYI turning off system restore deletes all your previous restore points. If you know when you started getting problems, a simple system restore can rarely, but sometimes fix the problem. So you might want to mess with it first.

I believe when microsoft releases IE 7.0, it will render Mozilla/firefox useless...but I'm sure we can get around that. :D I wub firefox too much to let microsoft end its short but sweet life span http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/curse.gif

I am sorry but there is no way the best spywear protector is from microsoft. Maybe they should spend there time making XP secrue instead of writing usless softwear that already has 200 other brands of the same stuff out there. Microsoft has OS in a monopoly. That is why XP has so many flaws. Companys like linux dont have virus problems because there OS's are secure.

Linux has holes as well, just not as many as winblows.

I use Firefox and WiH page loads up just fine. You're right though, there are some pages that won't load properly without IE. I found a Firefox plugin a while back that put "View Page in IE" option in the context box (the menu that comes up when you right-click). I'll have to find it again.

My advice though is indeed to switch to Firefox. You'll save yourself from headaches and save your computer from these sorts of adware/spyware.

My girlfriend's computer had a similar problem. My brother (he's only 10) went on a clicking spree and downloaded some weather reader or something and no matter how many times we deleted it, it kept coming back.

I'm not as computer savvy as some of you may think, lol. When problems come up, my solution is the Final Solution. Reformat. Nuke'em all. :D :D :D

Anyway, I'll post back here if I find the darn plugin, but seriously. Check out Firefox. It's sooooo unbelievably handy.

I'm not necessarily saying that it is the best, just the best free one that I've come across and that has worked the best for me. I'm just trying to give Bob some suggestions for things that have worked for me as I've had similar problems not debate wether Microsoft is the best OS.

So there!

Don't know if I'd blame Firefox for this. I use it exclusively, and have never had a problem accessing WiH. True, there are some sites that don't work well w/ Firefox, but my experience is that WiH is not one of them.

you should ask WIHaqdmin how many time he had to unban guys because they got banned because of mozilla.

I can't even delete my Norton. Something stops me. And it' only half of it. The anti virus is gone, but the firewall remains.

I reisntalled all the discs, yet I have noantivirus anymore. Norton, of course, feeeds me a line of automated crap when I email their support. No help whatsoever.

This seeve thing is my only torment.HOw can you get a popup, when you have your modem unhooked?

Adaware finds nothing.Well, I mean it finds stuff, but I get rid of it quickly. Seeve remains.

I'm so peesed. One night while paying CS, someone told me seeve was a CS popup. Anyone know if that is fact?

atomicbob

A google search turned this up.....
"I had seeve and how annoying was that!!! Im running win98se so not sure if im in the right place. I was able to remove it for good and it was just a plane fluke.
First...open your computer into DOS

Type: DIR <enter>
Type: DEL SEEVE.EXE <enter>
Type: EXIT

Now you are out of DOS

Reboot into Safe Mode

Open Run
Type in regedit

Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

In the list you will see C: seeve.exe

Delete it

Reboot....

It should be gone FOR GOOD

Now...this worked for me and didnt have any problems with drivers..etc...at all.

Good Luck

Run a free Virus scan at www.trendmicro.com and it should show that it is gone."

My biggest problem then, is that I don;t open my puter in DOS, and don;t know how, nor do I feel all warm and fuzzy with the whoole idea. Can I, should I, and do I want to, learn to do this?

This seeve popup is kicking my ass. It is relentless.

If it means anything, my Norton has a firewqall,, but no antivirus.. Something is broke.
