View Full Version : Smart Team Balancer

I've installed a couple of new things today on the servers:

1. Spawn team-wounding kick back. Anyone that tw within the first 15 seconds of spawn in will get a kick-back of the amount of damage he caused + an auto-slap for 30 damage. If he Tk, then he's auto-ban as usual.

2. Smart Team Balancer. This system is installed only on FF 2 right now. It takes in account a large set of variables, calculates them all and then decides who to switch and which team can accept new players. Those who attempts to stack to the winning team will be warned and after the 5th time, kicked off the server.

Sorry for the down time folks, but these servers had to be worked on to stop them from crashing on a regular basis. Thanks for understanding.

I suppose people like it on the server. I for one liked it when I could play with my clan-mates but I understand why its been put on. I just wish that players would've been responsible enough to not team stack so that this would not be necessary.

I did see a wierd quirk though tonight on Dust2 I think. It balanced the teams at 12 v 15 in the CTs favor and kept saying "observing CT favor" or something. That was not fun...

So it puts more people on the other team if someone on the other team is really skilled?

The team balancer works not on the number of players, but the skill of the players, skill of the team, winning streak of the team. It chews up all those factors and then decide who should go where.

The balancer we use is PTBx aka Ptahotep's Team Balancer. It is one of the best if not the best team balancer for CS 1.6 and now has been ported to Source.

Once you get used to it, you'll appreciate it. Saur is the most affected by this b/c he always has the highest score so he gets switched between teams alot. But the end result is that the game is much more balanced.

If you don't like the balancer, you can always go to FF 1 and stack it.

Sorry moi capitan. Im a server 2 groupie, so i'll check it out later. Haven't played with it yet. Server 1 is fun too but most of the people I like playing with go to server 2.

All hail the new changes!!

Although I have yet to even try them. Forza came this morning, and I haven't played anything else all day. Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing how the new ones work (heh, especially the team-wounding one).

I'll attest to that, it musta switched me 2-3 times a map!

But!

I'll also attest to the fact that it works! We're ending maps with smaller gaps between team scores :D :D :D

And I'll say I think it blows....no disrespect intended to the admin that put a lot of work and time into it.

My beef?

I don't care about winning the round, or having a saur or needle or any number of kill masters on my team.....that makes me no difference.

I just wish I could continue to play the side of the map I'm familiar with.

I can see the logic behind the move, but I disagree with the whole concept.

Myself, I don't team stack, I just play the side that I wish to attack from. I know those better. Now I get thrown on a side I know nothing about and it's like backing up to by first days of playing. Totally lost. Nearly every map I was attacking from the side I play about 5% of the time. In the long run, it is probably good for me, but I think it is going a bit far to change everyone's game experience to defend against one possible hacker. Before saur came in smokin both guns, nobody made any drastic changes because an egg, a lit, or an rg kicked everyone's butt. Name any other killer player and I'm sure you will find the same thing. The rules were not changed because of one person.

Yes, I agree, saur is awesome and a threat to every opposing player, but I disagree with this solution. Just let him play and kick everyone's butt. Don't make ME play the opposing side just to appease a few whiners. The grerat players will step up their game and even things out. That's simply what happens when a great player meets another great player.

So the ones here haven';t seen the likes of him before. Is he a great new talent, or a great new hacker that hasn't been caught yet? I don't know.

But I think, that the game play here has suffered worse trying to defend, or adjust for the likes of him, than it ever did when we were just gettig abused.

This is only one opinion and it's just mine, and I know there is a bigger picture to look at, but if there is ever a vote, I say this auto assign thing bites the big one.

So there is my freakin whine of the day.

The auto assign blows, IMO.

That said, I played on a couple other servers tonight, and they were both so out of control as to be unplayable IMO.

What a POS the rest of the CS/S gaming community is stuck in.

I feel sorry for them.

I liked the autobalancer last night. It worked well and there were no one sided map results. My only complaint was that autoassign was re-enabled. With the balancer there is no need for autoassign since it will just fix the teams itself.

We are slowly tweaking the autobalancer. As we get used to how it works, we'll make adjustments so that it doesn't autobalance people right away. We can set it so that it allows X number of people to freely join a team, then it will turn on autojoin to prevent stacking.

AtomicBob - This autobalancer is not to fight hackers. This is in response to the cries of excessive team stacking. Our goal is always to attract more players, but when the teams are stacked so that the maps are 12/3, 10/3, pubbers leave. As much as I would like to have faith that ALL good players will see that the teams are stacked and voluntarily unstack them, the reality is that only a few good players do that. The rest continues to beat the crap out of the other team and pump up their stats. That's how these CSS servers work. We've been there, done that. And that is why PTBx was installed onto FF #2.

I say continue playing on FF #2 atomicbob, you'll find that your skills will increase b/c you are being switched around. You learn the tactics of both teams, where to go, where to hide, where to not go, etc. A good player becomes good when they know both sides' tactics, positions, etc...

Oh, I'll keep playing...... As long as you guys are so kind as to listen to my occassional rants. :yaya:

I think I just needed to vent, and....I think it was the result of playing to much Guild Wars and not enough CS. My need to kill was not being satisfied and my adrenaline levels were low.
