We will have a BF2 server. It is unknown whether it'll be ranked or not.

just an unlocked server would be fine personally.

if they allowed private stats(like a php plugin or somthing) wouldn't have to mess with the ea stats.

if they added in a patch for doing your own weapon setup that would also be cool.

That whole ranked thing is a marketing device by EA. If we want to host a ranking server, we'd have to rent a server with them via their partners.

I don't understand why they don't allow a local database that tracks and rank the players of a server.

Because it all has to tie into their databases. They're not going to let joe-shmo plug in and insert data, for all they know it could be edited data for someone who just wants to appear like they've got a high ranking

But why can't I have my own stand-alone database? I dont' want to tie in with EA's database. I just want to track the players that play on my server. Seems like a reasonable thing.

EA has announced that only official EA servers and servers leased from EA will be able to participate in BF2's new ranking system. Currently the vast majority of Battlefield server space is on privately run servers not leased from EA. Obviously most (if not all) admins will want to run servers that are part of the ranking system, will you consider working with the community to find a verifiable and secure way for admins to have their non EA-leased servers part of the official 'ranked' system?

We absolutely want to find a way to have admins participate in the ranking system, as long as it does not jeopardize the integrity of the scoring. Currently we are looking into how we can make this happen. As a solution in the meantime, we are signing up partners from around the world to host free ranked servers in trusted environments, so we hope that this will fill the need for ranked servers.

Will DICE/EA work with the community to develop an independent ranking system with full access to all the unlocks?

We would also like to do this, especially on a server-by-server basis, so players can see who are the top rated people on any given server.
