OK, so my new Mobo has duel card capabilities.

On one end of my scale, I have my existing 6800gt. On the other end, the new 8800gtx

In between I have option of using two cards.

Scenario....

If I install TWO 7700 cards, how will that perform compared to one 8800?

Does anyone know that?

HOw about, how will two 7700 cards compare to one 7900gt?

I ask because I'm trying to decide what to buy, and I'm not sure if two cards = 2 times the performance, or if there is a lesser gain, or....

Whatever.

If the 8800 is 60-90% improvement over 7900, then does 2 x 7900 = 15,600 or what?

Thanks for easing my pain, with whatever info you can provide.

First off, I think you mean the 7600. There are no 7700s.

Right now, if I were you, there would be no doubt in my mind that I would buy 2 7600gt's. That will cost $300 compared to the $650 for the 8800. The 7900gt is good. I have one but if I could do it again I would get 2 7600s. The main difference between the 7600 and the 7900 are the clock speeds and if you have 2 7600s then that will blow the 1 7900 out of the water.

Bottom line is, if you are using $100 bills to roll your tabbaco then get the 8800. If you are concerned about $$ at all then I would get the 2 7600s.

I ordered the two 7600's. It should still be a noticably big difference over my 6800gt, right?

I guess since I've never seen cutting edge graphics, I'm not missing anything. Hll, I think mine look awesome already.

I went from a 6800gt to one of 7600gt oc's, and I am happy. Still looks good to me. When the dx10 cards come out and are reasonable, I will upgrade to that, and throw this 7600gt oc into the other computer so that it will then have 2 7600gtoc's in sli.

Forethought :D

If you think the 6800 looks good, you are going to crap your pants when you see what you just bought.

Two 7600s are about on par with a single 7900 from the benchmarks I've seen, but usually cheaper than a single 7900. This is going to be a beast of a machine!

i went from an AGP 6800GT to a pci-e 7600GT oc and ( although it did not work right) i was happy enough, 2 7600's should be perfect .... now of course the 8800 would be like driving a limosine to the local cornershop at the end of the street.

i look at what i have what i would like and what i can afford, then i buy something totally different on impulse, and it usually works out *L*

serioulsy, think of what you are used to, if your new setup can better this by at least half again ( probably morelike one i.e. twice as good) then you have done good.

Can I assume February will be a big month for you? :D

Err... So I don't completely hijack this. You should be pumped AB, the two 7600GT OCs will be awesome.

I agree. I'd seriously suggest wearing diapers and taking some valium before you turn that beast on. You are going to be amazed.

I totally creamed the first time I played BF2 and 2142 on my new machine at high settings. I had to change my shorts.
