Yes, the Locust are a mean bunch, and beating Gears on hardcore is a gaming achievement anyone could be proud of.
Bring it on!!!
PS. It would be cool to hook up with one of you guys to do Insane in co-op mode!

Very cool Ichi. Co-op on Hardcore or Insane should be wicked bc you can revive each other. Doing single-player on Insane, I've read, is insane!!!

Just got done playing co-op with Kernel Error on Hardcore. Wickedly fun and hard!
Co-op is super easy to set up. Just play single-player, invite a friend and *poof*, he's in-game!
Now I gotta work on my mindset in the game from run 'n gun of BF2 to one of taking cover and shooting from cover.

NM, I just picked up my copy of the game!
EB Games only got shipped 50% of their preorder quantity! I walked in 5 minutes after they opened this morning and got the last copy they had, they won't have any more for at least a week she told me.
Woo... and a free poster to boot. :)
wihadmin
11-08-2006, 12:23 PM
I was afraid of that my EB Games also didn't get in enough. Seeing as to how I fully pre-paid for the game from my trade-ins, I wanted to make sure I got mine. I stopped by their store 10min before closing and picked up my copy last nite. Glad to hear you got yours too. I didn't get a poster with mine, although I only bought the plain vanilla version.
Game is pretty intense. It's like you're going from one firefight to the next. On Hardcore, you can't pop-out for more than a second or so w/o getting hit. I died like 10 times in Training stage. Then Kernel Error joined up to play co-op. That was pretty fun. Even with 2 people, it was still a challenge to do. I ran out of ammo for my rifle a few times. The pistol was very accurate and pretty decent for headshotting the Horde drones.
Graphics: Very gothic looking. Color pallette is gray and cloudy. Very gloomy. They did a really good job with painting each stage. Everything looked war-torn, like a big battled occurred there not too long ago. Blood splatters, limbs get severed, rifles overheat and creates the heat dissipation visual. The only thing I noticed as odd was that sometimes, just sometimes, when you kill a Horde, the ragdoll physics would throw them forwrd instead of backwards. It's kinda weird to see that. The soldiers look big, dumb, mean, and totally badass!
Audio: I tried with my Triton 5.1 headset. Surround is excellent with clear distinct directionals. Gun fire is loud, crisp, and clear. Then I put it on my receiver. Woah! That opened up a whole range of bass frequencies. The horde soldiers grunts and growl with deep booming bass. The rifles produce a deep thumping rumbling bass that gives you the feeling that each bullet is a small explosion coming out of your rifle. The chainsaw rev's up and squishes the flesh when carving thru bodies. The music queues up to match the action and dies down when the action sequences end. It fits in so much that I don't even notice the music, but it does definitely set the mood and the tempo of a particular sequence.
Gameplay: great! Took a little bit of getting used to. I can't charge head on, circle strafe and live. I have to take cover, pop up to shoot and duck down behind cover again. Then dive to the next cover to flank and kill. While you'r doing that, the Horde will also try to flank you. So you've got to keep your eyes open on your flanks as well. Sometimes they'll try to rush you. They also use distraction as a way to get you to pop-up and then they shoot you from a different angle.
This is an excellent game that makes you feel like you're in an Arnold movie or The Rock movie. If you like action shooters, you owe it to yourself to experience this game.

My review:
Graphics: Gorgeous... that's all there is to say really. The explosions are nice and the weapon effects are cool. Everything is sharp but at the same time dingy in an apocalyptic sort of way.
Artistic: Feel very Dawn of War'ish with oversized power armor suits, massive weapons which make you feel like a badass. Soldiers are scarred, burned, and look like they have seen 14 years of war (as they have). It's got the cyber-punk, post apocalyptic dawn of war thing down pat.
Sound: Great thundering weapons, cool music, the voice acting is by and large good. The room shakes when I cook off a grenade and the music gives great atmosphere to the fights.
Movement: The movement techniques and cover in this game rock the casbah. You have to duck, leaning, combat roll, duck/run to survive. Linking moves together is easy with the directional pad and graphic assist gui... After a few minutes of playing around I was able to duck and sprint forward under fire, combat roll to a position with my back to the barricade, jump sideways and lean around the corner to put the butt of my rifle into the bad guys face. Pretty ****ing intense.
You can definitely play aggressively and live... when you run out of ammo the melee attacks are not worthless like they are in some other games.
Summary: If you have a 360 this is a must have game. If you don't have a 360 this is a reason to get one.

I've got to try Active Reloads.
Active Reload
An optional mini-game based on reloading click timing can either improve your weapons damage temporarilly or - if done badly - jam your weapon for a second. Jamming is also accompanied by a curse / noise - making it a tactical queue to your enemies and allies alike! It will work like so; you press the RB to begin reloading - somewhere during the reload process (marked by a vertical bar moving across the ammo indicator, left to right) the ammo indicator will flash for a fraction of a second - hit the RB again to receive the bonus (decreased reload time and increased damage). The damage affect will last to the end of the current clip, or for X seconds (ie you if your out of combat for a while the bonus is lost). The muzzle flash will include a blue heat edge to it to indicate the extra power. Every consecutive time you attempt active reload it becomes harder to time correctly.

The multiplayer maps are pretty cool! Lots of cover to hide behind. Lots of corners to peek out from. Ledges, stairs help you get an angle on your enemies. I'm very impressed with the map designs, their look, and their ambiance.
Sniper rifle is wickedly cool and powerful! Headshots are exploding shower of blood and skull fragments. Then the headless body collapse to its knees and finally to the ground.
I wish that we can do 5 vs 5. The extra players would have just added an extra level of intensity.
Loving this game!

First, sorry Vonkroll but this is what happens when an American company realeases the game.
Yes, I had a blast last night. Sorry I left so abruptly but I hit the back button by accident and got disconnected from the group and then realized what time it was and just decied to call it a night. It was somewhat satisfying to give someone the final blow by stomping the foot down on their head to execute them. Kernal was just crazy with that chain saw. Each time I thought I had him with the spray and pray and he would end up slicing and dicing me instead.

The single player or co-op on hardcore is crazy! The multiplayer is slower and more calculated. The satisfaction in multiplayer is in the flanking of your opponents and then killing them. I executed about 5 guys last nite with a pistol shot to the head while they cowered in fear before me. hahaha! Ok. that's a bit of fantasy, but I did execute 5 guys with my pistol.

yeah the nades make the birds move and they damage him at the same time. I dont know how much damage but then you have a few seconds to shoot him with the sniper rifle. and if you throw the nade and switch before it blows you have plenty of time to shoot. When he gets close is when it gets hard cause you have to run to the other side of the car while avoiding his gun and the birds.

Well VonKroll and I managed to take out RAAM somehow. He had the bow and I had the Sniper Rifle. He would blow away the Kryll and I would head shot him. at one point during the initial attempts I was able to kill him by using the melee attack from behind with a grenade but VonKroll ending up dying so it said mission failed. On the one where we got him Vonkroll was on the opposite side of the rail car with the bow and I kept getting his attention. It was pretty satisfying even on Casual. I can't imagine what this guy is like on Hardcore or Insane levels.

Yeah VonKroll finished too. I think that is a neat part of this game that you can hook up with someone else and if you finish an act with that person you have that count in your game as well even if it was they that started and invited you.

I am finally back from my TDY with a spiffy new 360, and some games including GoW. I invited the people listed in the first post as friends. My name is the same as it is here... and everywhere for that matter. ;)
Edit: Name is Cassius Melacor

Looky what i found
Gears of War trilogy confirmed? Source: A GameDaily interview with Jeff Bell, Microsoft's corporate vice president of global marketing.
What we heard: Though it might not be Halo 3, there's little question that Gears of War is a monster hit for the Xbox 360. Less than two weeks after its release, the game surpassed Halo 2 as the most-played title on Xbox Live. It has topped charts in the UK, and was second only to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Bestbuy.com's sales rankings for the week of November 13-19. As of November 21, two weeks after its release, over 1 million units of the game had sold worldwide.
In addition to its popular success, Gears of War is also arguably the best-reviewed game of the year. Besides earning a 9.6 from GameSpot--tying the Xbox 360 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as the highest-rated game of 2006--Epic Games' shooter enjoys a sparkling 95 metascore on Metacritic, which averages dozens of game-review Web sites' ratings.
Given Gears of War's ability to tickle critics and mint money, a sequel is a near-certainty. However, the GameDaily interview with Bell appears to reveal Microsoft has even grander plans for the game. When outlining his company's holiday ad blitz, the marketing guru gushed about Gears' burgeoning popularity. "Gears of War is a popular culture phenomenon in the making," he said, referencing a semi-controversial television advertisement. "The goal of this ad is to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the Gears of War trilogy. The intention is to create emotional connection with him that is lacking in typical third-person action title marketing." (Emphasis added.)
The official story: "Whenever a title enjoys the type of attention Gears of War is receiving, there is bound to be speculation and discussion about future installments. While we are discussing future plans for this very exciting franchise, we have not made any formal announcements."--Microsoft rep.
Bogus or not bogus?: Though it might be a ways off--the original took over two years to develop--Gears of War 2 is pretty much a lock, particularly given its (SPOILER ALERT) cliffhanger ending (END SPOILER). As for a third, Bell's words appear to unofficially confirm comments made by Epic's meteoric lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, who has said on numerous occasions he wants to make Gears a trilogy along the lines of Halo. Now, it would appear Microsoft does too, though they're not talking about it openly...yet.

Can you believe it? I played this game at my buddy's house and I was thoroughly unimpressed. The gameplay I found to be just bland and the graphics are kind of monotone. They're detailed don't get me wrong (duh, UE3), but I found them to be uninspiring and cold.
What can I say, I'm sort of glad I didn't get an XBOX :P

This game blows my mind every time I sit down to play it... I'm playing it at 1080i on a 52" DLP.

Yeah I'm thinkin maybe I need to give it another go.
It's either that, or I just can't use the controller for a 3rd/1st person shooter. Mouse all the way.

The simplicity of the controls (A for almost everything) is nice. I miss using a mouse when I play it though as I can't whip around as quickly as I would like. I would like to see more players in a game at once. I am not sure if the limit is for 'good gameplay', the hardware can't handle the load, and/or people expect console multiplayer to have so few players at once. Maybe I am used to BF2 and the like where 63 other people can join in on the fun. Overall it is not that bad of a game.

might have something to do with the dumb puppies on "cheapo-dsl" trying to host games with more then they can hold.
seen it enough, GRAW most pub games consist of a host on his "killer" dsl with 4mbps down(mind you the up is what counts) and blames everyone in the room for lag(created by his weak ass upstream) and kicks everyone.
remember, some people are "noobs at the internet", and if you don't noob proof it, it brings down the game experience for the non-noobs.
