With the stats reset I have paid a bit more attention to them and I notice that two hackers who have been banned are in the top 20 of the stats. Any way indiviudals can be cleared or is it a all or nothing wipe?
Curious.

why pay attention to stats, stats should be done away with as they tend to ruin the game for many. Teams not winning that should be merely because a couple guys would rather watch others get killed without providing back up to save their stats....screw the stats i say

I agree...stats are overated...I use to pay attention to them, but they drove me to play waaaay too much to try and better my stats...CS is fun and all, but I have a life as well. Now I just play to have fun, and try to help my team win. The game is much more enjoyable for me now than it used to be.
Heck, as strange as this may sound, I don't even play for stats. As a few of you can vouch, I'll go pistols only often and get pwned 'n such. I play to have fun, and I play for the team as well. I'll go in and plant, or defuse or get hostages if it calls for such.
The lesson? Be a good team player and watch each others backs and the stats will take care of themselves.

I agree completely. The game is 10 times more fun when you play to just play and not worry about how your doing vs the rest of WiH. Anybody can get into the top 20 if they always join the winning team and just sit in a good sniping position.

The trick is to always join the losing team and just sit in a good camping position. Marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate are optional.

i think stats are a good way to measure your abilities, because it shows actual proof of what your capable of and what you need to work on.. i think you guys have an issue with the ranking of the stats more than the stats themselves... because everyone wants to get better... even if its just for fun.
just my opinion

i can play two different ways. I can sit there, watch all my team die, then camp hard and kill opponents that spread out on their own lookng for me and it will reflect positively in my stats. Or I could be Mel Gibson and lead the charge for morale purposes and be the first to fall every round, which obviously reflects negatively in my stats. Hell, what I am known to play like is recon. I go to a specific place, usually by myself and remain hidden. Dont try to kill anyone but instead try to pinpoint and relay the location of the majority of opposition. This reflects negatively in my stats. Does it mean im not as "capable as the bumber one person. HELL NO. Im a damned good player, point is I play for the overall win for the team, not to dominate or pwn for myself. Thats how it should be played
anyway time for another final.
Peace

Indeed, stats are good. :D They're only bad when you start to take them out of context or play-for-stats. When you get that kind of attitude, yeah you'll start watching your team mates die instead of backing them up, you'll camp, you'll wait rounds out, etc etc.
That's when you become a stats whore. And yeah, stats can be a measure (to a degree) of ability, but I know there's plenty of players that aren't top20 that I'd rather have at my six than some of the other top ranked players.
That's why it's good to clear the stats from time to time because it does offer a measure of progress. Personally I use'em to see who's strategies I need to watch, what maps I need to work on, and to actually gauge other's progress.

When you get that kind of attitude...you'll camp...
hey now - camping chokepoints and sensitive locations is an important and necessary strategy for defense.

i think saur means something like camping in the T tower in cobble not really shotting at anything, just trying to be the last alive
Yeah! lol, I mean, camping's a part of the game, sometime's it pays to camp. Like Prowler was saying, gettin' in a good position ahead of the game while enemies pass ya by is a good move to play recon. Or sometimes when theirs a rushing team as you said coming through a choke point, you can hold them off single-handedly etc etc.
But yeah, it's when you camp in places that aren't helping anybody like prowler said, just to stay alive.

I think we need to add a couple more categories to the stats.
The MeatShield (the one who leads the charge and acts as a bullet sponge for everyone else)
and I couldn't think of another one right off, but I'm sure someone will.

I have been playing on this server for a few months now and I am letting the stats run my style of play. I would probably have more fun running out and getting into the firefights but I just hate being the first guy killed. I think everyone is right though, I should forget the stats and just have fun.

Indeed, and it's like I was saying above, play the game for the team, play smart, help out, and you'll get better. The Stats will take care of themselves (eventually).

I like the stats not because of the rank but because its cool seeing how many kills/deaths i have. I dunno. its a sense of accomplishment that im 100 more kills than deaths when on 1.6 when i first started out i'd always be way in the negatives like 200 more deaths than kills. its fun for me to look at it. as for the hackers being in there i thought on this server the top 20 people change daily depending on who is on doing what. so wont they be gone from there soon since they wont be playing here anymore?
Well say what you will but that stat page has me by the balls. I find myself there frequently I don't really care about what position I'm in rank wise. I focus way too much on my kill to death ratio. Before the reset I was +1200 in the death category and that drove me insane. I can't stand getting killed and not having a kill to show for it. My whole focus was getting my ratio even which was causing me to play under way too much pressure (hiding, running, camping) basically not helping my team at all. Thanks to the admins my burden has been lifted woo hoo. Oh now it’s on like Donkey Kong!

i, levi, am i stat whore, sometimes probably more often then not, but not always. i was recently owning on aztec as a terrorist specifically because i was helping coordinate the entire team and served as a frontman whenever possible. i think in the first four rounds i went 20-2 because the cts hadnt adjusted their strategies (after they did i went 6-6) anyway, the point is that i was doing well and getting lots of kills because the team was operating extremely well together and we were being cohesive and aggressive
camping and letting your teamates die in favor of getting easy kills is not really the way most of the people at the top have gotten there, i dont do it all the time (i am trying to be more of a team player though i still occasionally regress into waiting in t tower on cobble with a shotgun, mostly because i keep getting raped and i want to shoot some people in the head, not because i want good stats) anyway, people like saur, grim, and lord raleigh are all pretty aggressive. so its not fair to equate stat whoring with camping and being uncooperative to the team.
the worst thing stat whores do is continually join the side that has the defensive advantage- ct on demo maps and t on hosty maps, though in my opinion, its much easier to be t on piransi and tides anyway, people who always join the stronger side suck. i often switch teams if things get bad and im on the easy side. frankly, id like a return to the immediate auto assignment, as annoying as it was, it greatly increased the chances of an even fight.

It was not my intention to start a flame war over stats. Those who play with me regularly know that I rush, camp, defend the bomb or do whatever else is necessary to win the round. I do however like to be able to reference stats in relation to other individuals. There are people that I have problems killing and I want to know who they are. That allows me to study WHY they are more successful at killing me than others are. Once I can identify the weakness it can be overcome.
I personally don't care a whit whether you look at stats or not, are a complete stat whore, camp your asses off or only play with a pistol. It's a tool I want to be able to use, therefore I would like its integrity to be as good as possible.
Good hunting.

Time heals all wounds. These are not the first individuals to be at the top of the list and get banned from servers. Eventually their skill rating will degrade to 500.

Although I check the stats all the time, it's simply to see how I stack up (usually not well). I don't try to better myself for better stats; I try to better myself so the game is simply more fun to play and so I don't curl up and die when stuff gets hot. I say that stats don't ruin the expierience unless you let them rule the way you play (camping frequently, not providing backup, stopping in a rush, etc.), but that's just my two cents, and since I don't try to better myself for stats, I could be completely wrong; I just wanted to post.
