So my refurbished 360 ate it. It stopped reading movie discs. Over the course of the week or two I had it, it got worse and worse and worse until it finally just stopped reading movies at all. I think the terrible dialogue in "Tokyo Drift" is what sent it over the edge.
"ATTEMPTING TO READ DISC".
No kidding?
So here I sit, waiting for another shipping box to show up.
All I wanna do is game, you bastards.

you got lucky getting a box, because MS announced yesterday they weren't paying shipping anymore for warranty returns.

http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19301little iffy on your source, considering there is no link to an offical announcement.

Well, I will see if the box arrives. However, one Microsoft issue- they claim UPS will come to your house and pick it up. Maybe in Fantasy Land, which is next door to India with my tech service reps, but in Colorado, UPS told me I had to pay $10 to get it picked up.
Still, the shipping is free for now. Unless you count the $60 warranty I paid to augment the 90 day warranty.
I guess I don't really care about any of that. I just want a working 360. There are SO MANY games coming out soon...Strangehold, Rainbow Six, NFS Carbon, I JUST bought Lego Star Wars II, etc etc.
I am getting by okay. Mother Goose gave me the remote control thingy for the old Xbox so I can watch movies, at least....why not use my DVD player? IT'S AT MOTHER GOOSE'S HOUSE BECAUSE HIS 360 TOOK A DUMP JUST A FEW DAYS BEFORE MINE. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Haha hah haa ha a.
Sigh.

I really want to love the 360, I really do. I like their more "American-centric" games. How many RPGs can I take? I sold my PS2 years ago because there weren't any games for it I wanted anymore. I like the 360 and the games for it. I don't have to wade through four screens of "BLAH BLAH NEW RPG COMING OUT! THIS ONE HAS BLUE WIZARDS! WOW!" on teamxbox.com.
But it's getting hard to love a system that has been down for over a month now in the 7 or so months I've owned it.
So far tech support has been....well, as helpful as they can. What was weird was that it wasn't really having trouble reading game discs, just movies.
As long as their tech support does what it can, I guess I'll be okay. Lessons if you ever build your own console:
Don't cheap out on the f***ing DVD drive - didn't PS2 teach anybody?
Don't build it with 4,587 processors - complexity increases problems on an exponential level.
All that money you COULD spend on making detachable faceplates? Save it up to pay for all the shipping costs you'll incur with the busted consoles you'll be shipping back to your repair centers!
Hurray! This especially sucks because my PC is so old I can't even game with you guys anymore...BF2 barely ran, forget BF 2142. Sigh. I'll live. I'll take up other hobbies like knitting, and maybe stamp collecting.

you might have got a first production drive(which was quickly replaced on the 1.1systems)
CPU's are based off an old design.
i would rather diffrent color systems then faceplates. but my system is pretty stable, thinking of replcing the case with black (or chrome then put a clear black on it to look like powder coat) and putting a replacement fan in the rear with red LED.

or leave it white and put a blue one in, it looks kinda cool.

The "refurbished" unit I got was manufactured in late 2005, so I'm guessing it had old everything on it.
I'm STILL waiting for the UPS box to arrive so I can send it back to Microsoft!
