I almost bought these for $90 on newegg last winter, but now after rebates I'll only be paying $24.99. :D

Pick up pattern uni-directional? Does this mean although you can hear footsteps etc.. very clearly, that you really cant tell what direction it's coming from? I have that problem with any headset i ever had, sounds like they are right on top of me, but no idea the percise direction. Maybe thats where the 5.1 headsets come in to play, not sure. I tried to compare the specs of the headset posted to that of my altec lansing AHS515, its kind of greek to me and hell I am greek.
Could someone kindly tell me how much better the Steel set is compared to what i have. I found mine online for 23 buck some time back, after paying $40+ grr. heres the specs to mine.

One last thing, i dont see that the steel set is 5.1, so how can they, as they noted say "You will be able to hear and "pinpoint" the location of your opponents, often before they hear you." Not knocking the product, just trying to get the real skinny on what these can do, from people with techy knowledge. I am often the sucker who buys things because of the pretty package and inviting verbage.
Thanks

the pick up pattern is for the mic.
i have a pair of the turtle beach 5.1 headphones and i prefer a normal set of cans. i ordered a set of sennheiser pc160s today to replace my aging technics dj phones. the 5.1s are neat but a little gimmicky, and for some reason there's no bass at all if it's using the rear channels, which is annoying.

I recently purchased this headset from the zboard store. You can distinctly hear left and right, behind, and in front. They are comftorble but im not used to using headphones and can only take a few hours before im ready to take them off. if you use the coupon code mmorpg, you will get 5 bucks off. If you own a zboard and register it you can get 25% off. It has 5.1 surround sound effects and really immerses you in the game. I was playing Oblivion and could actually hear doors opening and people talking on my left and right as i walked by. When you walk by a fire it gets louder on the side its on and then fades away behind you as you keep going.

I chose the free 7-9 day shipping. Purchased Tuesday night, and they arrived Thursday. :D
Right away I could hear a lot more detail in everything, and the mic is really nice. Before this I was using a cheap Plantronics headset. I'm concerned that the inline volume control might be a little cheap. Could be just my unit, but when I control the volume with the inline control, the balance gets thrown off (left gets louder than right). The balance is fine at max volume, so I just leave the inline at max and control the volume with the remote for my speakers.

by adjusting the phase for the headphones ( if they are that advanced that is) it probably also requires the PC's soundcard to have the pseudo surround on too...

Nice features:
you control the volume by a simple wheel located 1/2 feet down the wire (doesn't affect speakers, speakers don't affect microphone either)
there is an extention cord on these... so weather you're 4 ft. away or 10 ft. away you have options.. I actualy have the headphones plugged into the speakers though the short cord and the micrphone plugged in the rear pannel though the long cord.
the microphone is a pull out, so the mic could be hidden in the headset or sticking out.. and it's even flexible so it can be bent to where you want it
the angle of the muffs can be adjusted, the band can be adjusted like most can - easy to be confortable
they sound great, I can actualy get a good idea of direction now, awsome!
Best $35, should've been $25 purchase in awhile
