when i got laid off in december 2001, i got a brand new computer from my ex-employer: dell dimension 8200 2G 256M ram w/ nvidia gf2 mx400. it got slowly upgraded (video card first) until i ran into a brick wall with upgradeability, crap support from dell, and unresolvable hangs/reboots while gaming.
last year, determined to hold onto my expired rambus technology (ITS STILL GOT SOME LIFE IN IT!) i tore the parts out, replaced the mobo (with an equally old asus mobo), swapped the processor for faster cpu/higher FSB, overclocked everything, and sliced/diced an aluminum case with a dremel to increase airflow.
this is my gaming/web box that i will use and love until it comes to a grinding halt.
i have other machines for other things too (dedicated audio production box, a wardriving laptop, and a 700MHz athlon just for kicking when i get frustrated).

Built a PC for gaming and video editing, but after two years I have yet to put together that wedding video! After hearing *we* were pregnant, I had to give up my gaming room for the kid. That put me in the garage...
Anyway, it's not as bad as it seems. I've finished the garage with sheetrock, paint, texture, carpet and recessed lighting. I've got all the goodies out there and can crank it up when I want! The wife is happy and so am I... woot!
5200 Intel chassis with 550w power supply
SuperMicro X5DA8 mobo
Adaptec 2010S RAID card
2 GB of RAM
(5) 36gb Compaq 15k SCSI HDs in RAID 5 config
ATI Radeon XT 256MB video card
Creative Audio gamer ZS sound card
Windows XP
20" Sony Trinitron
Ah... boys and their toys!
A pic to follow, stay tuned!
