Well, NK is claiming that they tested a nuke... the Australians are confirming this based off seismic (sp?) readings.
Wonderful.

just think, they keep testing them within their borders, and nobody will have to worry about them anymore.

Yea I saw this. I am very interested to see if it was an actual test or if it was a massive unground explosion of conventional weapons to "simulate" a nuclear test. I am also really interested to see how China reacts to this since it shows that they are weak and can't control their neighbor who they claimed they had significant persuasive powers over. Japan should be rather worried right now. I personally think a defense build up on their part is a good thing at this point.

Meh, North Korea loses it's nuclear advantage in just a few years once we get that missile defense grid up.

You mean the missle shield that can't hit a thing?
The interceptor even missed its target when it had a homing beacon on it...
Sure, they've hit a few things now and then. But it's a total waste of money IMHO.
They'd have better luck strapping a huge f'ing laser to a 747- oh wait, they're trying that too. hehehehe
okok.. I digress..
I'm curious to see how this pans out as well. Especially considering I plan on being in Japan in 9 months. Of all the nutwhacks on the planet to get a bomb, this guy gets one. The world knows no fury like an short, balding, fat guy who craves attention. Really, he has nothing to lose.
I sense some discount korean BBQ in our future...

they can't, there is a thing about how japan can't actually have anything but a defence force (which means no counterattack).
oh guess who put that in place ?

If anyone should be worried, it's us. Not because they'll try to bomb us (Kimmy knows that if he tries to use any of those nukes, N Korea will cease to exist), but because N Korea could really use some money. And what better way to make money than to sell some weapons/technology to a few angry extremists in the Middle East.

Japan has quite a stout military for a country its size. There are also rumors that they have a nuclear weapon compliments of the U.S.
Their constitution (Diet) is actually pretty flexible about things... and they have even sent troops over seas as part of the coalition (Iraq, Afghanistan).
Anyway... back on topic.

thats due to godzilla alway attacking tokyo
as for N.Korea, well they blew up a bomb under ground.... yay for them, we have a couple of thousand more where that came from, and they probably do not have the resources to mount a sustainable presence as nuclear power anyway, pakistan blew up nukes a few years back, we blew up nukes above and below ground for 20 something years, france does them in the pacific.
ooh look my dick is bigger then your dick..
i sometimes feel that these people are afraid if they do not blow up a nuke every now and again the laws of physics will stop working and when they want to use them, they will not work.
i wonder how many NK political prisoners were at ground when they pressed the button?

The only thing more dangerous than a psychopath is a psychopath with nothing to lose. Kim Jong or w/e his name is, even though using a nuke is a stupid thing to do, he might just do it. He is trying to get attention/money to his cause because his country is so poor that wal-mart could buy it and still be one of the richest entities in the world.
However, if the only way for him to get his 'attention' and 'fame' in the world is to use a nuke, eh.. that's a problem. And the missile defense grid thing works as much as Goblin Jumper Cables (WoW reference.) It's a big big big big big big big big big... did I mention big? waste of our money. Have better luck sniping the rockets out of the air with a desert eagle.

Pretty sure our government has now confirmed this was a nuclear test. Japan does have a extremely well equipped and capable "defensive force" But I don't think it is apt enough to deal with a protracted military engagement on its own. This issue has recently becaome about us because our fearless/stupid leader has just said that attacks on other countries (specifically Japan and I believe Hong Kong) in this area would be consitituted as an attack on the US itself, thus committing us to military action across the globe should such action occur. The other thing to consider (as I have mentioned in previous threads on this topic) is that it is not just about NK but also who their friends are. We are not the only country with allies. I think if NK did get in a military action, I'm pretty sure China is lining up right behind them along with Iran and a few others.
In the end, I believe countries like Iran and NK believe that nuclear capability is a sure ticket to a vote on the UN Security Council. I think that is really wha this is about. This would start to erode the US's monopoly on the decisions made by the UN and could even bring sanctions against us due to our overlooked infractions in Abu Grab and Gitmo.
BTW, the missle defense thing was a sham to throw off the Russians during the cold war. We leaked info about us starting one, they speant millions trying to "keep up" and we never really seriously invested in it. Not sure that was sarcasm or not. Also, as stated, it never really worked to begin with.

I think that China would conveniently abstain from participating in any conflict. They've reported already scolded NK for their test... and China has a booming economy which relies heavily on the Asian markets AND the U.S. So... they're interested in relative peace in religion.

and who would be crazy enough to go to hell willingly?!
The military's policy leaves an easy out in case of a draft though. Couldnt you just pretend to be gay? It's a lot cheaper than fleeing to canada! Do you have to fill something out like you do to get conscientious objector status?

If this nations military gets to a point where we're dependant on the draft, the last thing in the world that they're gonna send you home for is loving the ****.
Back on topic though, I don't see what the world is making such a huge deal about. Kim could light a fart and they'd call that a nuclear test for North Korea.

Kids have been trying this tactic to get OUT of the military for a long time. You need to demonstrate that you're gay to dodge the draft just like you've gotta demonstrate it to get out of the service.

I do not see how sanctions will really stop him...might force him to use force to take goods....

i, for one, would like to welcome NK to the international nuclear club.
now that you have our attention, how may we help you?

The mans a nut. I was stationed in Korea. While bored we used to listen to the North Korean Radio. It beat AFN hands down on music and some of the funniest comericals ever. Hey any radio station you listen to that calls out your name to tell you that your wifes proably cheating on you, isn't all bad, just stupid funny. I want to say it was during the spring of 04 that we heard the following. They came across on one of their dumb comericals and informed us that their great.... ect leader had discovered the hamburger. In short he invented the hambuger. To celebrate we had Burger King for dinner.
Any one that lies about inventing the hamburger, well, ya got to look at them in different light.
