"The only other country flying F-14s after today will be Iran, Pike says. Starved for spare parts, the Iranians struggle to keep the jets in flight."
Ya reckon we should be selling them parts?

not the tomcat! no!!!! I guess ill have to go back and watch top gun when i want my tom cat fix.
the f-14 was the first plane that i thought was sweet. Then i learned about the a-10 and thought that was the coolest damn airplane ever.
are those new fangled f-22 raptors in service yet?!

The Super Hornet and later revisions of the Hornet replaced Tomcats in the Navy...
But yeah, the F-22 is in service today as well.

some things they didnt address but i am too lazy to research...
when i joined up in 89, there was already talk of replacing the f14 with the f18. i assumed the f14 was canned long ago. also, after they take an aircraft out of the fleet, it always is given to reserve and training units.
i am interested if they are saying that f14s are being retired from the fleet and will now go to reserve units or they are saying they are mothballing all of them.
is like the a10. the a10 has been off the frontline technically for many years, but was in reserve units and used heavily in both the last gulf wars.

the last deployment date i saw was 2004, that was some years ago obviously. i thought i watched something the other day that said they wont be deployed in unit size until 07 or 08. but it sounds like multiplex knows what he is talking about.
again, im too lazy to actually look it up. also miramar is a navy/marine corps station. i don't know that they have any ordered. i know the air force is going to use them. marines are waiting for vstol version of joint strike fighter to replace harriers and f18s.
good friend of mine worked on av-8's at miramar for 2 years while in the marines.....it was bruce, redish.

Someone's gotta post it...
"I WENT TOOOOOO
THE DANGER ZONE!!!!
TAKE A RIDE INTOOOOOOO
THE DANGER ZONE!!!!"
The F14 Tomcat will be missed not only for its years of service defending the country but for its awe-inspiring performance in the still-cool Top Gun.

This is the plane that started my infatuation with Tom Cruise...er...airware fare I mean!

The Air Force has been trying to get rid of the A-10 for years, it doesn't fit their high tech image.
Back in the late 80's the AF said they were going to scrap them and the Army jumped up and said they would take them all. The AF didn't like the idea of the Army flying so they reconsidered scrapping them.
That aircraft continues to prove its worth in every conflict.

As a former Aircraft Electrician on the F14 its a sad day. I will say that any military aircraft loses its Luster after having the Flight Deck/ Hangar watch in extreme weather.

+ rep for your job
The F14 was a cool bird...but sry my heart still lies with the F-4U Cousair/ and B-25.
Hopefully some are availble for civilan purchase and a few groups by one and keep it flying!
