Yes this is a rant but mainly more of a question, first off...

I really don't care about the rep system, I judge people by the quality of there posts and not how many green dots they do or do not have! But simply...if your going to give me +rep, atleast put your name so I can return the favor! and if you're going to -rep me, put your name aswell...not so I can call you out on it, just simply so we can share our views on why you disagree with me...I find that interesting, but then again I am a dork so...well...there ya go.

Also I believe there is a feature that can be enabled to show the name of the person who + or - rep'd you, if that's true would you want it on?

Discuss.

I voted for showing names for those who rep.

Also, if you're going to -rep someone at least spell your comments right asshat! (directed at no one in particular)

I'm guessing that showing names will lead to the demise of the rep system.

It will cause too many bad feelings, and thus will need to be disabled. Just my prediction.

I figure if they are not man enough to own up to a neg post, then you shouldn't take it seirously. I gurantee if your negative reputation, that is unjustly earned, hampers you fully enjoying the forums....it will be fixed. So don't sweat the kiddies that neg and don't list their name.

We're not going to enable the names of who +rep or -rep anyone.

I voted no because i don`t want people giving me + reps just because i gave them + reps. I have never gave anyone -reps .

We're not going to enable the names of who +rep or -rep anyone.

This tells me it is a done deal, but fwiw I agree with the admins here.

In a perfect world showing the names of who gave rep would be great, but all it will lead to in reality is retaliatory -repping, etc.

I like Fozzy's idea - if they don't man up to it, then just let it slide. I think it should be encouraged for people to man-up to it, and I put my name when I rep someone whether good or bad, but once you force it it's a downhill slope for the ones not mature enough to put their name on their own.

I've had a few not so nice neg rep comments from some no namers... don't even want to know

Is there any way to force someone to leave a comment? This way people can at least give some sort of reason why they are neg repping you.

it's already like that (I just tried it on you for experimental reasons, or should I have not said that)
and no I didn't go back and give a real one:thumbsup:

You don't have to leave a comment.

+rep= comment not needed
-rep= comment needed

I voted no because, there are some who prefer the annonymity of it. I don't think there is a reason for it myself. If you +rep someone, there is no reason to hide. If you -rep someone, be adult about it and sign it.:dunno:

I always type a comment, and most of the time type name if I remember.

But I would like to know who is giving me the +reps, or -reps, so that I can return both favors:lol: . just kidding, not on -reps, but to find out why.

It would be nice to know, because of all the times Ive gotten rep, only once has a person left their name. I would prefer it with the names so I could see who did it and perhaps ask them why, but I would not hold a grudge and return the neg rep.

There are some people who hold grudges, and some people who dont. The majority is most likely from the former category, but there are usually some people who will try to get back at you.

I just made that statement because it seemed relevant, one of the factors for not putting names is a risk of "rep wars" and "rep spamming."

Ehy?

Neg rep for being a post whore...

I'd like to see who came up with that

OKAY, I received two + reps for my comments above and did not receive a name...WHOS the CHICKEN's now...

Thanks, all

I believe that if you are stating your opinion about a topic that is true and correct to your knowledge you have the right to be +rep'ed for it.

I don't agree that if someone does not believe in your opinions, -rep you for your knowledge. If you are in fact incorrect about something, then all they (the -rep'er) needs to to is (not attack you) but just post their opinion.

Everyone has their own opinions and believes.

I spread my opinions to other members in WIH as I see fit for topics that I can relate to, in the form of ++rep's. I have NOT and will NOT give out a Negative REP to anyone. If I have a problem with someone (which I have), I just send them a PM and chat offline. There is nothing to gain by neg rep'ing anyone of my fellow teammates on WIH.

:D

Anyone else getting that?

reps are also dependent on how long you've been a member here as well as the # of posts. That's why you're seeing it go up.

When does the new rep system go into effect... and are you still planning on wiping everyone's rep when you change it?

yup. I just haven't gotten around to wiping the reps and set up the infractions yet. :)

I don't believe he is just talking about the MySQL db, he is also talking about setting up the rest of the features that go along with the rep and the infraction system.

Ive also got another question for rep. Recently I got a "grey" rep. It says it is a neutral rep, and I was just wondering what that is.

Blis
11-07-2006, 11:02 AM
It means the person who repped you is in negative rep.Whether they plus repped you or neg repped you it would still just show as gray.

I got the rep from someone who had positive rep (3 bars) and from what he mentioned, his intention was to give positive rep

reps removed as part of the initial work on restructuring of the reps and infraction system.
