I humbly confess that I am the origin of the recent prevalence of cheerleader pyramids used on the WIH servers. It all started when the CTs were pathetically losing every round of Havana one evening after a long day of work (for me anyway). When the wins hit 9 to 0 I cried out, "Let's make a cheerleader pyramid!" Ironically, people listened. Most the time people ignore me and now I say the stupidest thing ever and people jump at it. Wierd... Anyway, CTs won the next three rounds with the tactic and the pyramid was born.
The rest of this post is about my theory of why the pyramid works and for those of you who are interested in military history and tactics. If you aren't a dork like me. Don't read on.
I believe it works due to a concept mostly used in pre-Word War military thought called "concentration and mass". A concept first introduced by a French tactician named Antoine Jomini. The idea is that which ever army/unit could bring the most firepower to a very concentrated location would have decisive victory over the enemy -- Hence Red Coats standing in firing lines, shoulder to shoulder. For those of you who experience the guns on CS:S to be as accurate as a musket, you will appreciate this concept. This thought process was still used all the way into Korea. In "A People Numerous and Armed", historian John Shy reviews some of the orginizational modifications made in army platoons going into Korea as a reaction to the poor rates of fire discovered when studying the effectiveness of D-Day and other World War II battles. In any case, the pyramid works because of the concentration of fire on the enemy.
Some thoughts at maximizing effectiveness:
1. Pick an open location that allows you to pick off enemies before they can get close enough to nade the group.
2. Find places with a single path of approach. This will concentrate all your fire into one location.
3. Buy weapons with a high rate of fire and a moderate to high level of accuracy. Some suggestions M4a1 Maverick, Machinegun, and AK47. Although I cannot remember the names the other rifle on Ts that looks like the AK is good (higher rate of fire). Also their is a 50 round SMG that has a Rate of Fire almost equal to that of the machinegun that works quite well.
4. Have one or two snipers in the group for long range protection.
GO, FIGHT, WIN!!!! GOOOOOOOOOOO CHEERLEADERS!!!! YAY!!!
