A Canadian Microsoft retail page recently put up the Windows Vista SKU's and corresponding prices. Not to mention they have been quickly removed but some thoughtful guys managed to take note of them while they were online! The Vista home upgrade version will come in at around $116, with the full home basic version costing $233 approximately. The full version Vista ultimate package is priced at a converted $450 USD!

Full Version

•Vista Ultimate $450
•Vista Business $341
•Vista Home Premium $269
•Vista Home Basic $233

Upgrade Version

•Vista Ultimate Upgrade $269
•Vista Business Upgrade $224
•Vista Home Premium Upgrade $179
•Vista Home Basic Upgrade $116

In all reality the prices are pretty average. Sure the $450 standalone Ultimate version is a bit high, but most users will be buying upgrade versions, and $116 isn't that bad for an entire operating system.

I'll be taking the home basic, so it's not that bad but jesus, some of those are expensive as hell!

I just want the one that works. I don't need all the pretty crap... I just need my network to work, my data to be secure, and for my peripherals to work right.

Windows sucks, but I'm too stupid to deal with Linux and not artsy-fag enough to buy an Apple.

Dear god, I hope the U has the same free-for-CS majors deal for Vista as it does for XP Pro. At that price, to say piracy is going to be rampant is probably an understatement, even if they do have fancy countermeasures.

Uh, guys... Just to remind you, the prices listed are CAD, not USD. Also, these were the prices on Techreport, which are even lower:

[INDENT]
Windows Vista Ultimate $349 [full]/$199 [upgrade]
Windows Vista Business $269/179
Windows Vista Home Premium $239/$139
Windows Vista Home Basic $199/$99

Must say I really don't care as the soonest I will upgrade is next summer, if even then. See when I buy a new CPU.

I hope there wrong to. The full version of XP Professional is $200 so they might be right. I thought it was going to be released in the Fall of 2006
