Here's some tips for pilots of the F35b...
When you have a bogie on your tail, go verticle! Do not turn left or right, you will not be able to avoid missles from a J10. If you go verticle, you stand a better chance of the missles missing you and losing your tail.
If you think you're being fired upon, while doing your climbing loop, roll the aircraft while using both left and right rudder at the same time. This causes the airplane to move in a way that pokes the tail out (the heat source). I can usually avoid missles by doing this move. It takes practice though and sometimes I'll mess it up and die anyhow.
Also, set up convenient secondary keys for forward (F9) and behind (F10) views. I keep my keys pretty close, a lot closer than the F9 and F10 keys which are hard to hit while flying loops in a dog fight. Try the left ALT button for your F10 view so you can easily look behind you to see where your tail is at.
Also, when you take off, you don't need to hover off the ship, that makes you an easy target for even a chopper TOW (TV) missle. Just point the aircraft's nose up and hit the afterburners, you'll make it.
Another tip with the F35b, hit both your left and right rudders while going verticle... you'll get some real cool sideways spins doing that, they come in handy while trying to out-fly a J10 (which is real hard to do). The J10 can't do it because it only has one stablizer (tail).
Another thing, the F35b can accelarate using afterburners faster than the J10 using afterburners. So if you are moving slow, and pull into a climb, hit your afterburners and you'll be right-side-up before he's even out of the apex of the loop.
This leads me to the final tip for today for the F35b... do not fly fast! The F35b has a slow stall speed. Use that to your advantage. A lot of new pilots think that flying at full speed all the time is the only way to fly. That's not true! The advantage of an F35b is that is can fly slow, a lot slower than a J10. Most pilots fly J10s at full speed to get good quick turns. But in an F35b, if you're fast you cant turn tight. So SLOW DOWN and you'll turn faster than you thought possible. Also, the J10 will usually be going so fast he'll fly right by you and not get much of a lock on you at all.
Don't get me wrong though, don't fly at the same slow speed all the time. Make it variable use your afterburners when climbing to out-climb the J10. Then slow down; but don't hit reverse. When you hit reverse to slow down your engines point down. This is EASY for a J10 pilot to see, and he can anticipate that you are slowing down and he can compensate for it and will kill you. Simply let go of the throttle to slow down. You slow down at the same speed as if you were hitting reverse (whlile piloting the F35b).
Basically, keep your speed variable. Remember your power in the F35b is that you can fly slower and accelerate faster than the J10. Use those to your advantage and you'll stay alive a lot longer.
Well, I hope these tips help someone out there. Happy flying!
When they nerf the J10 in patch 1.4 the F35b may once again be worth flying. :)
