I don't know who is in charge of adding or removing maps on the server but I just noticed there isn't many cust maps on the server. In fact I dont even know if i've seen any cust maps on the server. I've just played on a few servers which had some really cool cust maps and I asked where they got them before. If you ever think of adding some here's some of the links..

We only run official maps from Valve on the servers.

Yeah. I dont know i just thought maybe if you tried posting 1 or 2 cust a rotation it might not hurt to spice things up a little. Some maps like glass tower are really fun.

There was a custom map server for a while before they changed it, and from what I can tell there aren't any in the mix at the moment. I've played a few custom maps and they didn't impress me much. The mapping community still has a length of the way to go before they fully take advantage of the updated engine. Most of the maps I've had the displeasure playing on were either too big or too similar to 1.6 map designs.

Im confused on the owners, who are they? I keep picturing the cigeratte guy off of Xfiles or something.

99.99% of all custom maps suck ass. Being a volunteer guinea pig to help the owners out I took a crash dive proffesional tour of the CS map underworld. And it isnt pretty.

But persephone has initiated another zany hair brained JEff idea. I propose we initiate 1 custom map to the current rotation. Same map for both servers. Every 30 days this map is ditched and replaced with a new custom map. This way a little spice is added to the rotation. Folks wont have to download maps over and over again, we only use the best 1 out there, and in a fake way, we all feel were getting new content. Becuase valve is so slow in map releases. Dunno? what do you think.

Might I suggest Twilight, or cs_Xcom?

If you haven't played either, twilight is like another office map, but a little bigger, and with two levels.

Xcom is only about a month old, and is a big map based on the original Die Hard movie. You can get it here:

Twilight is pretty good, what a close quarters slaughter. There are several other customs that are pretty good, de_Snowtower if you have some CPU power, de_mill is a lot of fun if they have fixed the bug where too many players force one of the CT's to spawn in a wall, plus I am a die-hard Iceworld fan for aiming practice.

I have played twilight it sucks major ass with more than 8vs8. It is not big you can get from ct to t spawn and vice versa in like 2 secs. I hated it. cus like he said it was like office (but crappy) with stairs.

see... here's the problem, everyone wants one custom map added but can't agree which one to add. do a poll and at least someone (or more) will hate the map added. perhaps the solution would be to pony up some moolah by way of the next drawing or just contributing to WiH with donations so that they can get "another" custom map server.

course, this is dependant on the owners and if they'd be willing to or not. while i love a variety of maps, i for one am glad the two servers are just offical valve maps.

would be neat'o to see a server that has so many maps in rotation that you'd only hit each one only once in a 24 hour period.

24-hour Havana anyone? Vryl? :D

A big part of the issue is that there are 10+ people that likes custom maps. However, only 1 or 2 can agree to which ones they like. So we get 3 people on a map b/c the rest of the peeps will quit game when a map comes up that they don't like.

Shhh. That's supposed to be a secret. :yaya: Like I said, I would probably have like 1 person on if I ever did that.

players might complain about custom maps and argue over which one one is good and which one sucks, but that wouldnt be much different than now. There's always at least one person who hates the next map during game play

for example- you ever get to Compound late?

I hate Compound. Period. Worst map that Valve has ever made. Too one sided, almost impossible for the CTs to win, unless the Ts really screw up.

i like the idea of putting 1 custom map in the rotation a month and it should be done with the understanding that whatever map gets the most votes to be added is what we use for a month maybe only 2 weeks. what do you think WiHadmin?

Or add an Custom Map to the Rotation permanently. Most of us on the Custom Server like Nuke, because it was a classic map. I like Docks but the AI needs to be fixed.

i like that idea. or...take one vote for a custom map to be put in (out of maybe 5 carefully selected customs) and also take another vote for most hated map in rotation and pull it (for 2 weeks, or a month).

No no no, no voting. We must crush this democracy like Anakin Skywalker. I've already gotten notice that this "could" happen. The owners are smart enough to pick a map that meets the requirements of playable to all and obviously better then the rest. As it is our map rotation is only 20 minutes long and i seriously doubt hordes of people will leave because 1 custom map is in the rotation. Most of the legwork for something like this was already done months ago when we all suffered through some crappy maps. With the exception of maybe a few "new" maps that could be good, example montreal, there isnt myuch out there. I can guarantee anything glasshouse/scoutz/knives/gravity jump type maps wont even be considered. And thats a GOOD thing.

edit--

What does that mean AlF? :dunno: There is only 1 map I dont really like from Valve and thats chateau.

Agreed... Compound blows.

As for the custom map dealie.. I'd like to see at least one new map make the rotation. I'd love for it to kick compounds stank ass off the rotation too : P

Come on, compound isn't that bad. Tides is a hundred times worse as far as terrorist advantage goes. The last few times I played compound the CT's didn't have it so bad and won several rounds. Anyway, cs_twilight was alright at first but the more you play it the less respect you have for it. You're absolutely right in that you can get to T spawn and back instantly. You can get the hostages instantly as well.

Have someone (admin maybe) research some custom maps.. the best, most stable maps, we will put into rotation.. Play them for a time period (30 days mentioned) and if the general consensus is that the map sux.. insert another.
We dont need a vote, just put the map in, period.

We get players leaving now when maps like Havana and Chateau come up, but they come back.

my 2 cents.. :dunno:

yeah last night both servers were almost full #1 was for hours and #2 had like 20-25 ppl in it. so i dont think a custom would cause much of a problem espically if it was one map just on one server.

Havana, Compound should be removed. Tides/Dust are also pretty one sided maps, Dust more so. I don't see any problem with a custom map or two, especially if they can be downloaded on the site here as well.

If people have good enough computers to run Counter-Strike source in the first place, downloading a map shouldn't hurt or lag anyone too much.

but ya, little tweaking turns lag to smooth.
