Pick a TV! I am in the market for a new TV, what do you all recommend, and I will be getting in August, which is coming up fast! Something that will make the 360 look awesome... Price range 0-3000 ish

If you go widescreen HDTV type of thing I have been told you need to go for an LCD screen because plasma creates issues with ghosting when playing games. I recently bought a 40inch LCD Sony Bravia and am very happy with it (though after tax that may just nudge out of your price range).
I can't be any help with any of the technical specifications that will help you, but i'm sure some of the savy people around here will put in their 2 cents soon enough. My main advice would be to be picky, do your homework and make sure you get the opportunity to see the TV you're thinking of buying in actual use.
As i can't play online games this Saturday i'm going to find out what CSS looks like in 16:9 mode on my new TV :)
Good luck shopping Gorro!

Keep in mind that if you get a high-end TV(take DLP for example), you'll have to change the lighting bulb at the end of the year. The price for that runs around 300 to 350 dollars(they only last so long). I would go with a CRT.
Best of luck to you in your search.

which one did he buy? I looked at some LG's, have a link? I saw a Sony that I fell in love with, but a little pricey. My brother just got a Plasma, and he loves it, he also got a kic kass deal on it, half price, but that is because of his job, lucky SOB.

Alright So I own a LCD projection TV made by Hitachi its only a 50" and only cost me $2000 about 2 years ago. At that time it had a much nicer piture the standard projection plus it's only 17" deep only down side it didnt have the HDTV tuner in it but then again both my DVD and Reciever units are HD anyways so wasnt a big deal to me.
The bulbs last around 10,000 hours or so which is roughly the same for DLP.
If space is an issue then go strait LCD plasma not worth the money unless u dont care about money.
LCD projection and DLP are pretty much the same. LCD uses three different panels to make up the color and DLP uses 3 chips with small movable mirrors on it.
Remember 10,000 hours equal having the TV on for 27 hours a day for a year straight
Really it's up to you and what technology you want to go with.

I have a 52" DLP and I love it. I clean the three lenses once a year and I've had it for two years without having to replace the bulbs. Works great with games and plays moviese wonderfully. If you don't have a component/HDMI/S-Video connection though then your picture is garaunteed to look like ass.
I got mine for 2800 bucks and it was the best tech-toy investment I've made in a while.

i second what M'Plex said... I have the 50" Panasonic DLP (quick link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002F8QYU/002-0397805-9024034?v=glance&n=172282) and it was one of the best investmests i've made in a toy/gadgets. i've got it hooked to my FiOS for TV (that's HDTV through Verizon and over only one line unlike DirecTV), along with my progressive scan DVD player and xbox360... very, very, VERY NICE.
couple of notes:
my HDTV is 1080i and is the model before they integrated HDMI, so i have a DVI plug instead... no biggie, pretty much the same thing except without the audio channels, and i use the component inputs instead anyhoo. i don't know if you're thinking about going 1080p or not, since it's the "newest" thing in consumer techno-land you'll pay a premium for it.
as previously pointed out, i have had minor troubles with the bulb on my TV. i don't recall what they're rated for in terms of life hours but it should be close to 2-3 years. that said, i've had mine go out once per year (i've had this HDTV for 4 years) up until the last one. each time it went out i called Panasonic service, told them my bulb went out and was less than a year old, they verified and sent out a free replacment overnight. the last time it went out they noted that there's been a manufacturing issue with the bulbs since the model was out but that it had been rectified with the lastest bulb. when i received the last one i noted that the design was slightly different so that may be true... anyhoo, this bulb has gone beyond the year so far (knocks on wood). also... i clean the filters out just like M'Plex too... it goes a long way to preserving your electronics.
PROS: everything! really. the picture is great, colour is fantastic, blacks look black, and everything just looks better. it's got more inputs than you can shake a stick at... and since getting HD FiOS, sports watching is better than being at the games. watched the Rose Bowl in HD, watched the World Cup in HD... freggin' awesome... you can see the individual blades of grass on the field, and you can see the panty lines on the cheerleaders... it's that good. (lol)
CONS: aside from my minor issue with the bulb... nada. would buy the same model in a heartbeat.

Great review Alf!
I really like first hand accounts over anything else, they say more honest things. Just one question, can you hook up your computer to it? I mean, play BF2 at that size with the sound being pumped through a home entertainment system....WOW! (And Gorro has the computer and entertainment system for the latter half of that question :D )

Hey Alf and Multiplex, how are the Samsung ones? You ever look at those, or actually anyone can answer, I can get a good deal on a Samsung right now, what do you all think?

most metal hylide lamps used in projection systems vary between about 4000 on the low end to 10,000 hours on the higher end... thy tend to get dimmer more yellow, and have striking problmes the older they get, they also do not like vibration, you also have to be dead sure when you install them that you make sure they are really clean, also make sure you are not in a dusty environment, the dust burns to the lamp and will shorten it's life... also good for sunburn without a dichroic filter ( as most discharge style lamps are)

if i had the extra cash i would have got the equiv Samsung model. when i did the research i found Samsung had the best quality picture and truest black... this was when i was looking around which is 2nd gen DLP (i believe they're on 3rd gen now). worst of the bunch was Sony's offerings... Panasonic between the two.

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma. I play my X360 on it and its sweet!
I have it connected through the HD-VGA connection; looked better than the component connection in my opinion. I get my VGA cable from my laptop and play BF2 sometimes too :dgrin:
I have no problems with ghosting or blurring in fast action and believe me Burnout Revenge is fast:D but still very crisp and smooth.
The only thing, is when something is pure black, its kind of funky on the screen; but I think the latest models have almost eliminated any problems with that. So that was kind of annoying when playing a dark game like Quake 4.
It sounds kind of funny but if your considering DLP's Mitsubishi makes one of the best looking DLP TV's out there; on par if not better than the Samsungs I have seen.

I'd def look @ the one Rajun posted in that first link. If I were you, I'd get a tv w/1080p and that particular one Rajun posted I've seen in the store and it is beautiful. But once u get a couple models in mind go over to www.avsforum.com (http://www.avsforum.com) and research them quite a bit. That is THE forum for discussing audio and video equipment.

i bought a 40" samsung plasma that makes my 360 look as good as my pc. it's absolutely gorgeous. if you watch a lot of standard def tv avoid the plasma as they can get some burn-in (like when your wife watches qvc all day, argh!) but they are definitely the hotness.
http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/PlasmaTV/HPS4253XXAA.asp
that is what i bought. i have my 360, an upconverting dvd player and comcast cable hooked up to it. HD is nice (tho i hear OTA is even better, no antenna yet). there aren't a ton of channels, but the list is growing.
