Thanks:thumbsup: It looks like the best deal to me is the Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Question what does the 65W EE stand for:dunno:
Drayu did you ever figure out what processor you were going with, I am building a new rig too, and i need someone to sway my opinion:0trampoline:

Before I had seen this I was sure i was going to go with the Conroe chip, but to get a AMD x2 5000+ under $300 has totally changed my mind. I am 99% sure that I am going to go with the AMD chip, just not sure if I am going with the 939 socket or the AM2 socket yet.
If I go AM2 socket it means a WHOLE new computer for me. If I go 939, I can salvage my $250 corsair memory. I just have to decide which is more cost worthy. If I go 939, I will have to do a full upgrade next time too, but if I spend a little extra now on the AM2, then come time to upgrade next time I will have the AM2 socket chips available. So, now I am just deciding which of my options is going to give me the biggest bang for my buck. So far, I know the hard drives and optical drives I want, the rest is up in the air.

I just built a system with a x2 4200. Sucks if I could have wait a few months I would have the 5000x2 Am2

Drayu, I was thinking about trying the new conroe chip or OC'ing that dual core chip on tom's hardware for less than a grand, but with these prices I am right there with you and AMD. 5k for less than 300 bones...check please. Same issue as you with regards to memory and picking the 939 or am2...Let me know what you do, b/c I will probably be buying the same.

I am leaning towards AM2 for future upgrading purposes.....but I have to research the AM2 socket first....see what it is all about.

I posted this yesterday, you forgot to give me credit:thumbsdown: lol jk, I don't care
For those "AMD fanboys" (no offense) this is good news, it'll save you guys money
But for those who don't care about brands and want better for your money Conroe is still a good bit better, even after this drop
Sigh I just had to have my new parts today....Oh well, I went with an AM2 socket on mine and so far it has had no problems, though it has only been up and running for about 5 hours now. I figured by going AM2 next upgrade I will beable to salvage the board and just add some more ram to keep the costs down.

AM2 might not be sticking around too long.

AM2 might not be sticking around too long.
More so when you take a look at this article: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795
From anandtech.com:
Looking at Battlefield 2 performance, Intel begins to improve its gaming performance lead as we are becoming more CPU bound: ...
The Core 2 Extreme X6800 now attains a 19% performance lead over the FX-62, and the E6600 manages a 10.9% advantage itself.
The new Conroe chips beat out AMD's X2 in every test. Intel now has a $316 chip that rivals AMD's $1000 flagship! These new pricings are just AMD's way to stay competitive, but after reading that, it doesn't look to good for AMD anymore.
Really hate to break it to the AMD guys here... I know im gonna get neg rep'd for this... lol

mostly because there is rather severe bottlenecking in the current AM2 configuration(it can't even beat out S939).
there is word of a re-release of sorts for AM2 under the same pin configuration with some changes to fix the proformance issues. also add support for quad core.
