Ok I joined the 9th infantry about 2 weeks ago and they assigned me to the airforce. Sense I'm going to be career pilot now I'd like to know if I should go pick up a joystick at the nearest walymart. Is there any advantages to a joystick????? Like I heard your able to turn faster and its more stable than a keyboard. Sense we have quite a few pilots with joysticks around here I'd like to hear what you guys think about the question in hand. Keyboard vs Joystick

i think its 100x easier with a joystick vs all keyboard. i use a hybrid of keyboard/joystick. X axis rolls, Y axis is pitch and all my weapons are on the joystick too. Keyboard i use A/D for turn left/right and WS for speed, X for flares, Shift for boost

i think a joystick is better because i can make smooth turns, loops, semi rolls, and elipticals with it vs just a keyboard. I tried with the arrow keys and WSAD but couldnt figure it out...

Joystick! No doubt about it. I use a 12 button Logiteck and programmed all the common keyboard keys to the buttons. It's sweet!

All you need is a keyboard and mouse...

a. simply raise sensitivity to turn faster
b. any move done on a joystick can be done with a mouse and keyboard too, it just may actualy take time to learn

from what I know you have little time in jets, actualy heard you saying they ruin the game before... but anyways you don't need a joystick, it may actualy be a bit harder this way, do you want a challenge?

A 3 axis Joystick with throttle is the way to go. If for any reason, it brings some sense of realism to BF2.

I use a Thrustmater Topgun Afterburner (60 bucks or so and probably not the most 'precise' stick out there, but prefer the military aspect of it). Using a joystick makes the gaming experience better imho..

go keyboards musy easlier to fly but some times tight circles can be a pian but is possable you need the sens up high.

Yes three axis joystick with throttle for anything flying is the way to go for sure.
I fly with right hand on joystick, left hand on Keyboard great setup.

Saitek Cyborg Evo, inexpensive $40.00 or so, awesome resistance, responsiveness, and accuracy I highly recommend it.

I do allright with my mouse and keyboard. I can change the sensitivity of my mouse in game by pressing a button on my mouse if need be. I tried a joystick but damn thing drove me crazy.

I'm thinking about picking up a joystick too, now I fly with keyboard only and I always loose the dogfights even form wingcomm....

but the only problem is that when flying with a joystick, how do you got left or right without doing the roll? is that possible? bc I think that another big advantage of an joystick is the speedcontrol some have. but when I want to use that, I have 2 hands on my joystick, so no hands left to control the 'a' and 'd' buttons.....I'm clueless..

I use a mouse. I kept my setting as is per default. Dont waste your money on a joystick. Give your mouse a chance. If you cant get the hang of it, then buy yourself a joystick. Joystick or mouse, your a$$ is still mine.:D

Hope this helped you out a little.

That's what the "3 axis" Stick is for. I goes forward and back, left and right but also has a twist for straight out turning.

I am a pretty good pilot... Put it this way, I take out J10's with the F35B.

I use a mouse and keyboard only. My mouse is the Logitech MX518 though. It has sensativity buttons below and above the mouse wheel which allow me to adjust sensativity on the fly. This means that when I'm going in for a strafing run I'll decrease sensativity for good accuracy. And when I'm dog fighting, I crank it up so I can turn on a dime.

What I'm looking at for responses people either use keyboard+mouse or joystick. Theres one problem when I fly I don't use a mouse I use just the keyboard so I can't take tight turns like you guys and I really don't feel like learning to fly with a mouse. So I'm either staying with my keyboard or getting a joystick. Thanks for all the advice guys.

I've noticed a lot of repeat threads recently.. I'd imagine if I went though them all it would seem like I copy pasted the same answers in all of them. :hehehe:

Wing - I'm intersted to know what joystick you'll be picking up if you do get one. I love my Sidewinder 2, but it's getting a little old and worn out. There is a little to much play when it's centered.

Keep in mind that if you do get a stick, it'll sure be nice to use with other flight sims. BF2's flight model will let you get away with keyboard flying but I'd hate to try it with more realistic sims.

alright wingcomm. I just bought an joystick and...

I like it, not that I'm better all of the sudden. but it gives me more fun while flying. and about tighter turns, don't think so. but combinations of manuvres are easier to make. I bought one with trust control. and that is very handy. now I can fly slower when repairing or getting new bombs without forgetting to push the 'w' key now and then to not crash. I bought an trust joystick GM-2500. and it has 12 keys. so I have everything on the joystick. also the camera views. so now I can have a quick look if there is something on my tail.

only problem is I have to relearn all my flyings skills I have. not that I was that good. but I could do better with keyboeard then I do now with joystick. so I practised a lot now offline and I'm getting the hang of it. I think I like it very much. I just want to fly more and more

I think you should go for it. ow and mine was only 25 euro's and its just fine. dont spend to much on it.
