Well this may sound weird for a 13 year old, but ever sense Raleigh got me into video games I've had a strong desire to design video games and was wondering if anyone knew of any BASIC (mean no C++ shit cause ral has one and i didnt like it) books or prgrams you could tell me about. It would be a big help.

Go check out a Frys if u have one by, or pretty much any electronics or book stores will have a bunch. I guess if u want as basic as basic gets learn Fortran, but like nothing uses that anymore, or even java.

on the contrary, java is all over the Internet. There are different flavors including applets, javascript, and servlets which many big company website use.
I would recommend playing with the "script" languages. They tend to be a little easier to learn and you can usually get something going rather quickly. Check out Java, Perl, PHP, or C#. You could also check out regular C, which is pretty good, but requires more code to get stuff done.
Borland.com has from freebie IDE programs for Java and C# available for download.

I have the exact same desire Pills! I to want to get into game design, that is why I purchased DarkBasic a low cost, basic game programming language for PC, but I will soon be changing to a faster, more flexible basic language soon called Blitz3D, I would suggest checking out both and trying the trial software, here are some URL's.....
www.thegamecreators.com
www.blitzbasic.com
Both of those programs will allow you to skip the tedious work of learning C++ and get right down to the game.
PS: if you want to buy one of these, I would prefer Blitz3D, I only have the trial version, but it is much more powerful, it also has a awesome built in collision system that will calculate ellipsoid to polygonal collision quickly and effeciently.

now, go ahead and learn basic but you'll need to get into C++, #, Java, and general scripting. course if you happen upon an install of MS Visual Studio you'll notice that the development enviornment is the same regardless of which language you choose. pick up a book on visual basic if you want but i would recommend you going ahead and starting on C++ now. when i was your age i had already tought myself assembly, CPM, basic (old basic), and pascal. once you learn one it's an easy transition to another. IMHO

I have DevC++ a free C++ IDE and compiler, it seems pretty good even though I have not written anythign in it. I bought a huge C++ book called sam's teach yourself C++ in 21 days, but the book alone will take months to read LOL, I have two options right now, either go ahead and dive into C++ or go buy blitz3D make a bunch of games, but not actually learn the required language, considering that I want to be a designer and not a programmer I would go with the latter, but the first option could make for a fall back plan, oh jeeze I am typing to myself, NOT AGAIN!
